  • Patent number: 4457153
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming internal threads on tubular components by a non-cutting process is disclosed. Various disclosed features find particular utility when using a thread forming or rolling tap process to form internal threads on sucker rod coupling tubes. In the preferred embodiment, a machine is disclosed utilizing a movable fixture head (34) capable of simultaneously threading one or more tubes (12, 12') of various sizes. A single hydraulic cylinder (59) moves the fixture head to various positions relative to the work stations (14, 16) to control several operational steps including the sequential feed of the tubes (12) to the work stations (14, 16), clamping/unclamping of the tubes during the tapping process, and retention of the tap (204) while the threaded tubes are removed from the work stations.

  • Patent number: 4281960
Abstract: An improved automatic loading and unloading device (10) that can be used for high production machinery. The device (10) utilizes "straight-through" feeding of workpieces across a shuttle table (16) to a work station and through same to a discharge chute (70) minimizing the jamming of the pieces. In addition, the device simultaneously indexes new workpieces on the shuttle table (16) by means of a loading/unloading assembly (14) while previous workpieces are being machined. The device can also be used for supplying and indexing workpieces on a batch basis rather than an individual workpiece basis.

  • Patent number: 4272927
Abstract: A broaching tool is manufactured directly from a heat hardened blank of preformed metal by having a grinding wheel of CBN (cubic boron nitride) material cut a broach tooth from the hardened blank by cutting gullets in the blank. The blank is made movable and rotatable relative to the CBN grinding wheel to allow the manufacture of a series of broach teeth forming a broaching tool with various tooth spacings, depths, and angles with respect to the face of the broaching tool.
