  • Patent number: 5622576
Abstract: An improved off-the-road pneumatic tire designed to be mounted on an associated design rim having a flange portion is described. The rim flange has an axially inward surface contacting the axially outward portion of the bead area of the tire. Each bead portion has a surface contacting a radially inner portion of the rim flange. The surface and the flange initially cease contact and diverge from one another at a location in the cross-section of the tire and rim and in a region of the flange in which a line L1 tangent to the flange surface and passing through the axis forms an angle greater than 0.degree. and less than or equal to 15.degree. with a radial line L2 passing through the point of divergence and perpendicular to the axis. The tire has a steel reinforced radial ply which extends between and wraps about each bead. The ply has an inflection point located radially between a radially outward surface of the bead and a radially outward surface of the rim flange portion.

  • Patent number: 5261474
Abstract: A molded shape for an earthmover tire 20 is disclosed. The uninflated, unmounted outer shape tire's sidewalls 22 are composed entirely of curves connected at tangency points between the tread 24 and the bead flange area 26. The shape transitions smoothly from one curve to the next without any flat surfaces. The sidewalls 22 have axially outer convex surfaces extending from the tread 24 to the bead flange area 26. The tread 24 has a radially outer ground contacting surface 28. A curved line tangent to the ground contacting surface 28 forms an arc having a single radius of curvature (TR). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the outer shape consists of four curves with one curve describing the tread arc width (TAW), one curve R.sub.us describing the upper sidewall, one curve R.sub.ls describing the lower sidewall, and one curve describing the flange area radius R.sub.fa.

  • Patent number: 4967817
Abstract: A pneumatic tire designed for use on paved road or dirt surfaces comprises a pair of annular tensile members, first and second carcass plies, a tread, and a pair of sidewalls extending between each annular tensile member and the tread. The plies from an angle between 20 degrees and 30 degrees with the tire's equatorial plane, the first ply having an substantially equal but opposite orientation from that of the second ply. The tread has a single radius of curvature in the axial direction. The tread radius is within .+-.2 inches of a radius defined by the following formula:DR=1747.29-337.967(OD)+16.4798(OD).sup.2 -0.0076(AN).sup.2where DR is the normally inflated design radius in inches of the normally inflated tire, OD is the tire's outside diameter measured in inches, and AN is the cord angle of the carcass plies measured in degrees. The tire has an aspect ratio of less than 50%.

  • Patent number: 4813467
Abstract: A radial ply aircraft tire (11) is mounted upon an H-type rim (10) which was originally designated for use with a bias ply aircraft tire. The ratio of the axial distance (WBF) between the rim flanges to the maximum cross-sectional width (CSWR) of the tire is in the range of 0.7 to 0.9. The ratio of footprint width to footprint length for the tire is in the range of 0.45 to 0.65. Preferably, the carcass (12) and the belts (14) are reinforced with aramid cords. A line (T) which is tangent to a carcass ply (12) and passes through the center of a bead (13) is inclined at an angle (.alpha.) of greater than 60.degree. with respect to the tire's axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4790364
Abstract: A tire structure that is especially advantageous for an aircraft tire has a pair of annular elastomeric members (40,41) disposed axially inwardly of the carcass plies (13,14) to maintain the carcass plies in a desired configuration. A preferred arrangement of bead reinforcing strips (32,33,34,35) is disclosed for use in tires that are intended for mounting on H-type aircraft rims.
