  • Patent number: 9815531
Abstract: A marine platform (and method of installation) provides a plurality of buoys of special configuration, a platform having a peripheral portion that includes a plurality of attachment positions, one attachment position for each buoy, and an articulating connection that connects each buoy to the platform at a respective attachment position, the connection allowing for sea state induced buoy motions while minimizing effect on the platform. A method of installation places the platform (including oil and gas drilling and/or production facility) next to the buoys. Ballasting moves the platform and buoys relative to one another until connections are perfected between each buoy and the platform.

  • Patent number: 7399018
Abstract: A lifting sling and a lifting grommet are disclosed which can be fabricated of a high tensile strength polymeric material, preferably a woven polymer such as liquid crystal polymer fibers, that are woven in a rope or cable configuration. The apparatus features an elongated woven material length of cable that is spliced. Plastic, preferably polyurethane spring cut tube sleeves are positioned as a grip on the splices to allow for handling in the field without concern for the splice becoming disassembled or undone. The sling and grommet of the present invention can each be provided with a clear cover spring cut tube that serves as a flexible protective cover for minimizing abrasion and maintaining the slings appearance.

  • Patent number: 7066343
Abstract: A lifting apparatus includes a plurality of preferably four carriages, each carriage supporting a lifting boom. Two booms are pinned together to define a first pair, a second two booms being pinned together to define a second pair. Each pair of booms and connected carriages are placed on a preferably common travel path. Rigging can include a horizontal beam that extends between the first pair of booms and the second pair of booms. The beam can be attached to the pinned connection of each pair of booms with a sling. A powered motor-driven winch is used to power a cable that is wound between sheaves on the lower end portions of a pair of booms that are connected together. During use, the winches are simultaneously or nearly simultaneously operated to elevate the first pair of the booms and the second pair of booms at about the same time. The horizontal beam that spans in between booms is elevated.

  • Patent number: 6412649
Abstract: A spreader bar includes an elongated bar member having end portions that support a flexible lifting member that is supported below the bar. The flexible lifting member is preferably comprised of a plurality of link sections that are pinned together, load carrying links depending from the flexible member, preferably at pinned connections that join the additional links.

  • Patent number: 6367399
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the salvage or installation of large multi-ton marine platform includes the use of usually two barges defining a base that can support a large multi-ton load. A lifting assembly is supported by the barge and forms a load transfer interface between the barge and the deck package. Each boom has a lifting end portion that fits a supplemental lifting frame attached to the platform. During removal of the platform from its underlying support (e.g. jacket), there are winches with cables that pull the barges together as the booms lift the supplemental lifting frame and the supported platform. The supplemental frame includes both horizontal and diagonal beams that interface with the platform to transmit load to the lower end of the platform.

  • Patent number: 6364574
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the installation or removal of large multi-ton prefabricated deck packages includes the use of usually two barges defining a base that can support a large multi-ton load. A variable dimensional truss assembly is supported by the barge and forms a load transfer interface between the barge and the deck package. Each boom has a lifting end portion with a roller that fits a receptacle on the package. Tensile connections form attachments between the deck package and barge at a lower elevational position. The variable dimension truss includes at least one member of variable length, in the preferred embodiment being a winch powered cable that can be extended and retracted by winding and unwinding the winch.

  • Patent number: 6296288
Abstract: A spreader bar apparatus of improved configuration is comprised of a plurality of bar sections including at least a pair of bar sections that are connectable end-to-end to form a lifting bar with a central longitudinal axis and with left and right bar end members, each removably attachable to the lifting bar that is comprised of the two bar sections. A plurality of transverse annular faces are provided respectively on the bar sections and on the bar end members for transferring axial load along the bar central axis and in between the various bar sections and end members during a lift. A plurality of connecting portions provided on the bar sections and bar end members form detachable connections between the bar sections and between each bar end member and a bar section. The apparatus of the present invention is so configured that a majority of load is carried by the annular faces as opposed to the connecting portions.
