  • Patent number: 5512224
Abstract: A warp-free laminate is produced by winding a first set of strands or filaments about a flat mandrel with a second set of strands being wound transverse to the first set. The two sets may be perpendicular to each other. The filaments are maintained under a controlled tension while being impregnated with a resin and during subsequent cure of the resin. In order to permit the formation of a warp-free product, the winding pattern is such that it forms a mirror image about a neutral axis or plane of symmetry. The winding pattern may be chosen to provide interstices in a predetermined pattern determining punching out or high speed drilling of hole openings for subsequent printed circuit applications.

  • Patent number: 5376326
Abstract: A method for making a multilayered printed circuit board including the steps of arranging two plates in spaced relation, arranging a perimetral seal between the two plates with an upper opening in the seal to form an upwardly open chamber, placing a plurality of printed circuit boards between the plates in spaced relation to one another, placing the chamber under vacuum, injecting a settable matrix material into the chamber, compressing the end plates towards one another to achieve the desired outer dimensions of the board, and curing the settable matrix material.

  • Patent number: 4473420
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for winding hoop windings onto a cylindrical member which may be a fiberglass tube or a mandrel. Two sequential stations are provided, each of which includes a rotatable drum and a rotatable winding member. Each of these is separately drivable by respective pulleys. The separately driven drum can be wound with filament or filament may be stripped therefrom according to requirement. The associated winding member consists of two funnels between which are positioned a plurality of pulleys, such that the filament can be unwound from the associated drum and applied to the mandrel or tube.

  • Patent number: 4415613
Abstract: For forming a perforated pipe a method is employed which includes winding on a mandrel having multiple spaced protrusions thereon angularly related strips arranged between the protrusions. These strips cooperatively define openings through which the protrusions extend. The strips are formed of fibres which are impregnated with a settable resin or plastic which combine with the fibres to form a tube adequate to resist a pressure of about 600 p.s.i. Because the protrusions are employed the fibres can be so impregnated as to be resin-rich. The openings may be screened with resin-poor granules arranged in vaulted configuration. A further strip may be wound around the foregoing arrangement to hold the granules against the resulting pipe.

  • Patent number: 4312162
Abstract: A fiberglass pole suited for use in electric transmission systems and reinforced against flexure stress includes a plurality of reinforcing regions perimetrically disposed and selectively placed thereon. The regions are integral with the pole and are formed of composite material that includes a plurality of pre-stressed longitudinally disposed fibers and a bonding agent embedding the fibers and structurally joining the same to the pole.

  • Patent number: 4269436
Abstract: A joint for connecting first and second pipes, each including spaced inner and outer pipe members and a foam material filling the space between the inner and outer pipe members. The inner pipe members of the two pipes are adapted for conveying a fluid medium, the inner pipe member of the first pipe having a flared female end and the inner pipe member of the second pipe having a male end sealably inserted in the female end. The foam material in the second pipe is provided with a recess in which the first pipe extends so that the foam material in said first pipe confronts the foam material in the second pipe. The outer pipe member of the first pipe has an annular groove therein which faces outwardly and a coupling in the form of a separate tubular member secured to the second pipe or a thickened portion integral with the second pipe surrounds the outer pipe member of the first pipe and has an annular groove therein which faces inwardly and is in registry with the annular groove in the outer pipe member.

  • Patent number: 4032708
Abstract: This invention relates to an electrical transmission line and, in particular, to a conduit for underground and underwater high voltage electrical power transmission lines.A resin bonded filament wound pipe is provided with a coaxial electrically conductive shield layer which is protected by a non-conductive coating. The pipe is generally of the bell and spigot type, and a conductive adhesive is employed in the joint to make the connection between adjacent pipes, and also to complete the electrical connection between the conductive elements in the adjacent sections or pipes. In completing said electrical connection, the electrostatic shielding for the insulation for the pipe is effectively established. A transmission line is supported within the pipe.
