    Abstract: A method for publishing a data message to shared storage includes receiving an action targeting a user associated with a distributed network having a plurality of service providers. Each service provider includes a private storage system and has access to a shared storage system. The method also includes parsing data elements of the action into a first set of data elements and a second set of data elements. The method further includes classifying the first set of data elements into categories of a data taxonomy. The method additionally includes generating a message for the action where the message includes the first set of data elements. The method also includes publishing the message to the shared storage system using a first identifier indicating the user and a second identifier that indicates that a respective service provider associated with the action has authority to publish the message to the shared storage system.

    Abstract: User profiles of remote desktops are managed in a crash-consistent manner. When a user logs into a remote desktop, metadata of the user profile is loaded from persistent storage while registry settings and files of the user profile are loaded asynchronously with respect to the login. During the remote desktop session, snapshots of the remote desktop image in persistent storage are generated periodically, and a change log that indicates changes to the user profile is created therefrom. The user profile stored in persistent storage is updated lazily using the change log at opportunistic times after snapshot generation. When the user logs out of the remote desktop, the user profile stored in the persistent storage is updated with any additional changes to the user profile by extracting the changes from the copy-on-write cache associated with the most recent snapshot.

    Abstract: A server accesses a previous frame of an image in a video and obtains hash values for each pixel in the previous frame and creates a hash map that stores each of the hash values. The server receives a current frame of the image and separates the current frame into a plurality of current blocks of pixels. The server calculates, using a hash function, a hash value for each of the current blocks of pixels. The server compares the hash values in the hash map with the hash values associated with the current frame and identifies a hash value in the hash map that matches a hash value in the current frame. The server compresses the current frame for transmission to a client using the identified matching hash values and pre-calculates a new hash map based on the current frame for use in compressing a next frame of the video.

The designated storage system requests a file system in the computer system to store the backup copy as a file in the local storage and maintains a record describing storage locations for each of the one or more sets of contiguous available file system data blocks. The storage system may transmit the record to a management computer configured to track which of the computer systems has stored the backup copy. The storage system then requests the file system to delete the file, whereupon the file system removes the file descriptor and frees the one or more file system data blocks in order to satisfy the deletion request but does not delete the data stored in the one or more file system data blocks.
