Patent number: 11613410Abstract: A flat-bottomed bag is formed from a flexible sheet that initially is flat prior to being manipulated to form the bag. The sheet is a laminate of a first web and a second web laminated together by an adhesive layer disposed between the webs. The sheet defines a plurality of serially connected side wall panels collectively defining a vertically extending side wall of the bag, and a plurality of bottom panels respectively connected to the side wall panels at respective fold lines. The bottom panels are folded about the fold lines and are attached together to form a flat bottom wall configured to support the bag in an upright orientation. The adhesive layer is in a partial-coverage pattern that includes adhesive-free regions located along each fold line between each bottom panel and the respective side wall panel connected therewith.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2021Date of Patent: March 28, 2023Assignee: SONOCO DEVELOPMENT, INC.Inventor: Jonathan Edward Trollen

Patent number: 10906700Abstract: A flexible barrier sleeve device and method to temporarily store a wet paint roller between uses, to avoid cleanups between successive applications of paint, or other roller-applied coatings. The flexible barrier sleeve has combined water- and solvent-barrier properties. A twist-tie can provide a closure and sealing means, and a stiffening strip disposed along the outer lip of the sleeve facilitates forming an opening into the sleeve for ease of loading of the wet paint roller. The sleeve material has barrier properties sufficient to keep both water and organic solvents (“paint diluents”) inside the closed and sealed barrier sleeve. The twist-tie provides a vapor-resistant seal, to minimize the loss of water and organic solvents from inside the sleeve through the sealed opening. The combined barrier properties of the sleeve material and vapor-resistant seal prevent the wet paint from drying on the enclosed roller, and allows the paint roller to be later removed in a condition ready for the next use.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2019Date of Patent: February 2, 2021Inventor: Jonathan Edward Trollen

Patent number: 10733912Abstract: A flexible laminate structure for making a package and methods for constructing such flexible laminate structures are described that provide a peelable portion integral to the laminate structure. An inner ink layer may be printed on the peelable portion that includes a promotional offer, such as in the form of a barcode, where the inner ink layer is not visible to a consumer without first peeling the peelable portion off the package due to the presence of one or more blocker ink layers.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2018Date of Patent: August 4, 2020Assignee: Sonoco Development, Inc.Inventors: Scott William Huffer, Jonathan Edward Trollen
