  • Patent number: 6173543
Abstract: A partition system includes having a [covered] face and a horizontal frame member. A C-shaped structured channel is attached to the horizontal frame member outboard of the [covered] face. The channel extends horizontally and includes top and bottom parallel flanges that attach to the horizontal frame member and that define a horizontal wireway adjacent to the horizontal frame member. Apertures are formed in the top and bottom flanges for routing utilities into the wireway from above or below. Wiring routed through the apertures can be protected by sleeves. A shelf or worksurface is supported in cantilevers on the channel. A flexible is attached over the channel. Vertical blade supports for shelves can also be supported on the partition with vertically spaced rear brackets attached to the partition.

  • Patent number: 6076474
Abstract: A freestanding support for supporting a worksurface and an overhead storage unit and the like in an open office environment includes at least three legs where each leg has a bottom portion adapted for resting on a floor, a top horizontal support adapted for receiving and supporting a worksurface on the support, and a vertical support which maintains the bottom portion and the top horizontal support in a fixed vertically spaced relationship. A stretcher extends between and is attached to an upper rear portion of the end legs thereby maintaining the two end legs in a parallel horizontally disposed relationship. The freestanding support also has at least two support posts. One support post has an intermediate portion attached to the stretcher and is positioned substantially in alignment with one of the end legs and further has a bottom portion attached to the vertical support of the end leg.

  • Patent number: 5979118
Abstract: An expandable/contractible furniture component is configured for attachment to a partition system to provide an adjustable structure adapted to adjust with the partition system as the partition system is adjusted to provide different office sizes. The furniture component includes a corner shelf attached to the partition system, and in-line shelves also attached to the partition system. The in-line shelves are telescopingly adjustable into the corner shelf so that the plan dimensions of the shelves are adjustable concurrently with the partition systems to provide storage surfaces and shelves that extend and completely fill at least one dimension of the office. An in-line telescoping straight shelf construction and a two-way telescoping corner shelf construction are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5970662
Abstract: A system for subdividing a building space into work areas includes interconnectable partition panels, each having an internal frame with a plurality of horizontal frame members located at predetermined heights. The horizontal frame members each have at least one horizontal row of slots, and at least one of the horizontal frame members is located slightly above an optimal worksurface height for supporting an interactively used datum shelf. Furniture components are attachable to the horizontal frame members at selected horizontal positions, including the datum shelf, an undershelf storage unit, and an upper storage unit. A mobile furniture unit is provided having a worksurface located at an optimal worksurface height, the worksurface having a cantilevered edge section that can be extended partially under the datum shelf at a selected optimal depth for coordinated and efficient use of the datum shelf concurrent with using the worksurface.

  • Patent number: 5287909
Abstract: A freestanding privacy screen comprises a plurality of like panels shaped to be positioned in a side-by-side relationship. Each panel includes a frame on which an insert panel can be mounted, and hollow side members or uprights. A pair of hinge rods are positioned in the hollow uprights of the frame for axial rotation therein, and have first key members positioned adjacent opposite ends thereof. Panel connectors interconnect adjacent panels in a mutually vertically aligned relationship. Each panel connector has a two-part body construction interconnected by a removable fastener to capture associated end portions of adjacent hinge rods therebetween. The connectors have second key members that mate with the first key members on the hinge rod ends which rotationally interconnect adjacent hinge rods, such that when the privacy screen panels are pivoted, the hinge rods retain adjacent panels in their vertically aligned relationship.

  • Patent number: 4783752
Abstract: A knowledge base processor is callable by an application program to access a knowledge base and to govern the execution or interpretation of the knowledge base to find the values of selected objects or expressions defined in the knowledge base. The application program is written in a conventional computer language which specifies control by the ordering of program steps. The application program provides a user interface for input/output and provides top level control for calling the knowledge base processor to find values for goal expressions. During its search for the values of goal expressions, the knowledge base processor calls the application program to determine values of expressions which are not concluded by the knowledge base, and to signal important events during the execution of the knowledge base. Preferably the knowledge base processor and the application program each include a library of subroutines which are linked-loaded to provide a complete knowledge system for a specific application or task.
