Abstract: A method and system for identifying a subject of a document and facts included within are described. A source document that includes facts and linking documents that include hyperlinks to the source document are identified. The anchor texts of the hyperlinks are identified and candidate labels are generated based on the anchor texts. One of the candidate labels is selected as the unifying subject of the facts. An information set, distinct from the source document, is stored in a facts database, wherein the stored information set includes the unifying subject, and source document information associating the source document with the information set.

Abstract: A system and method for maintaining persistent object identifiers across versions of a collection of data. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a first collection of objects is compared to a second collection of objects. If an object in the first collection matches an object in the second collection, a reference is added to the object in the first collection referring to the object in the second collection, allowing the identifier to persist in both collections of objects. Additionally, according to one embodiment of the present invention, the data (or “facts”) associated with the object from the first collection are moved to the object from the second collection. In this way, data associated with matching objects is combined between two collections of objects while maintaining persistent object identifiers.

Abstract: A method and system of learning, or bootstrapping, facts from semi-structured text is described. Starting with a set of seed facts associated with an object, documents associated with the object are identified. The identified documents are checked to determine if each has at least a first predefined number of seed facts. If a document does have at least a first predefined number of seed facts, a contextual pattern associated with the seed facts is identified and other instances of content in the document matching the contextual pattern are identified. If the document includes at least a second predefined number of the other instances of content matching the contextual pattern, then facts may be extracted from the other instances.

The system and method groups similar objects into buckets based on a selected grouper, matches objects within the same bucket based on a selected matcher, and identifies the matching objects as duplicate objects.

Abstract: A key attribute may be selected for a set of objects in a fact repository. A candidate attribute is identified and objects having an attribute-value pair with the candidate attribute are gathered. The candidate attribute is selected as a key attribute if the names of the gathered objects and the values of the objects for the candidate attribute satisfy predefined criteria. For instance, objects may be merged into one object if they have same or similar names and have the same value for a key attribute.

Abstract: A system and method for categorizing objects on the basis of the existence of the facts describing those objects. Objects may be stored in the collection regardless of their category, and each object may have any number of facts associated with it. The objects are then categorized on the basis of their data structure, that is, on the basis of the existence of the facts associated with that object.
