  • Patent number: 11965296
Abstract: A traffic control device, for use with a roadway receiving vehicles travelling longitudinally along the roadway, includes a housing mounted transversely across the roadway with an upper supporting surface that supports the vehicles rolling over the housing. A tire puncturing frame comprised of a shaft supporting tire puncturing members thereon is rotatable within the housing between stored and working positions of the tire puncturing members relative to the upper supporting surface of the housing. Offset counterweights are coupled to the frame to bias the tire puncture members towards the working position. A latch bolt threaded into a threaded aperture in the housing selectively retains the tire puncturing frame in the stored position.

  • Patent number: 11603634
Abstract: A traffic control device, for a roadway receiving vehicles travelling longitudinally along the roadway, includes a housing, which may be formed in two or more modular sections, mounted transversely across the roadway. A frame comprised of a shaft supporting tire puncturing members thereon is rotatable within the housing between stored and working positions for selectively puncturing tires. In modular embodiments, the shaft of each module includes a joiner plate supported at one end of the shaft to enable rigid connection between the shafts of adjacent modules. In some embodiments, offset counterweights are coupled to the frame to bias the tire puncture members towards the working position, and an upper stop member on the housing, formed of resilient material, is engaged by the frame in the working position and is adjustable in height to control position of the tire puncturing members in the working position.

  • Patent number: 6224291
Abstract: A spiked road barrier is provided for deflating the tires of a fleeing vehicle. The barrier includes a housing arranged to be mounted within a trench in a roadway. A cover plate is mounted on a top side of the housing such that it is flush with a top side of the roadway. The cover plate includes a plurality of apertures therein, each for receiving a spike therethrough in an armed position. The spikes are mounted on a bar within the housing and extend upward through the apertures in the cover plate in the armed position. The bar may be lowered into an unarmed position such that the spikes do not extend upward past the cover plate using an actuator mounted within the housing. A membrane is coated over the top side of the cover plate to cover the apertures and seal them closed in the unarmed position. When the spiked road barrier is activated, the spikes are displaced upward and pierce through the membrane.
