  • Patent number: 6695499
Abstract: A scanning device such as a printer has a trapezoidal carriage support beam which permits a compact juxtaposition of the carriage slider rod, the printhead, a drive belt and an encoder device. A second slider mounting for the printer carriage includes a bushing incorporating a part-spherical portion and an arm which engage with corresponding parts of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 6648529
Abstract: A carriage slider rod is mounted on a steel beam by means of brass support elements. The support elements are first riveted to the beam and then have precisely aligned V-shape grooves machined therein to provide accurate location for the slider rod. The slider rod is screwed to the beam using central bores passing through the support elements. To fix the support elements to the beam, they are first located in respective apertures and then deformed by a clenching tool, one jaw of which passes through an adjacent aperture in the bottom wall of the beam.

  • Patent number: 6409321
Abstract: A modular printer chassis, particularly for large scale printers, includes a lower media module which provides a rigid platen media support surface connected to an upper scanning carriage support module by a plurality of fasteners which are tightened at the time of assembly to thereafter permanently hold the modules, which are accurately positioned with the aid of a gauge at the time of assembly, in place so that the accurate inkjet printhead to media spacing in the print zone is maintained.

  • Patent number: 6199973
Abstract: A storage container for storing inkjet cartridges, when removed from the carriage of a printer, having a capping housing for holding one or more caps, associated with each cartridge, for capping the printhead of the cartridge, wherein the caps are easily removable from the storage container by a user. The provision of manually removable cap allows the cap of a storage container to be matched to a particular cartridge having a specific printhead, ink formulation and lifetime. This ensures the efficacy of the cartridge is maintained during storage and prevents contamination of one cartridge by ink residue that may be left on a cap by another cartridge, which can damage the printhead due to chemical interaction between the different ink formulations.

  • Patent number: 6132037
Abstract: A storage container for storing inkjet cartridges when removed from the carriage of a printer having caps for capping each cartridge, cleaning member for cleaning the electrically conductive interconnect pads of a cartridge as it is positioned within the storage container. The cleaning member may comprise abrasive cleaner for mechanically scraping or wiping the electrically conductive interconnect pads of the inkjet cartridge as it is inserted into and/or removed from the container and preferable comprises a flex circuit. The provision of cleaning member within a storage container reduces the chances of poor or defective electrical contact being made to a cartridge when it is returned to the printer.

  • Patent number: 6123421
Abstract: A storage container for storing inkjet cartridges, when the cartridges are removed from the carriage of the printer, having a housing for simultaneously holding a plurality of inkjet cartridges and associated capping means. Preferably the cartridge housing has a plurality of compartments each having a number of biasing means for holding a cartridge against datums in the compartment. A set of components for holding a plurality of inkjet cartridges comprising a first cartridge holder adapted to be mounted on a carriage of an inkjet printer, and a second cartridge holder adapted to be mounted in a storage container for storing inkjet cartridges. Apart from mounting adaptations, the first and second inkjet cartridge holders comprise substantially common structural features so that cartridges are stored in substantially the same manner in which they are mounted on the carriage of a printer.

  • Patent number: 6027209
Abstract: A storage container and method of storing inkjet cartridges and removable capping means therefor in which the order of their insertion and/or removal is controlled. Preferably, both the order of insertion of a cartridge and its capping means and the order of removal of said cartridge and capping means are controlled so that a cap and a printhead of a cartridge engage and disengage by the movement of the printhead towards or away from the cap thus preventing damage to the printhead by movement of the cap or any of the other components of a service module against the printhead. A rotatable arm mounted on the storage container which abuts a cartridge and obstructs the removal and/or insertion of the capping means is disclosed for controlling said order of insertion and removal.
