  • Patent number: 6779457
Abstract: A method and apparatus for protecting and arming fuses in a projectile to satisfy safety requirements and to initiate ignition with only minimal delay. In accordance with the method, after launch of a projectile, behind a cap having a central inlet opening a safety device of a turbine/ignition pin unit is released and the impeller thereof is subjected to ram pressure. The ram pressure displaces the turbine/ignition pin unit into a front position, to act as impact detector. In a device constructed in accordance with the invention, the turbine/ignition pin unit has a screw thread on its shank and is screwed into a threaded bushing so that the ram pressure displaces the unit, against the direction of flow into the front position. On impact, the rear end of the unit acts as a percussion needle and initiates an ignition chain.

  • Publication number: 20010002297
Abstract: A data carrier, such as a memory disk, is provided with a pyrotechnic layer which can be ignited to destroy the data on the carrier. The pyrotechnic layer has an inert lining and can be triggered by a conventional electrical ignitor. The layer is based on a thermite mixture having an excess reducing agent.

  • Patent number: 5115707
Abstract: An outer jacket (14), an inner jacket (15) and an explosive charge (16) are ach independently manufactured on one of three parallel production lines (1, 2, 3) and assembled on a contiguous assembly line (4). The jackets (14 and 15) are designed to have a sufficient shape stability to be handled as separate components, and obtain the required firing strength due to their assembly. By changing the inner jacket (15), the ammunition body manufactured in this way can be prepared with different active bodies as suited for the application intended.

  • Patent number: 4898098
Abstract: For generation of smoke screens for civilian and military applications, briquetted, combustible masses are used, which, by means of scattering charges, are spread in a buckshot-like manner. Smoke charges serve mostly toxic substances which, at least when failing to burn or when only partly burning, constitute an environmental hazard.According to the invention, there is provided a device consisting of nontoxic, hygroscopic smoke charges fully encapsulated in a moisture-impervious ignition layer. An ammunition body comprises smoke charges of differing sizes and geometries, and facilitates the ground-covering laying of smoke screens over large target areas.A preferred manufacturing method for the smoke charges and the ignition layer is described.
