  • Publication number: 20010023224
Abstract: A roll has a continuous tubular roll shell (11) of a composite material and axle journals (12) rotating together with the roll shell and joined to each end of the roll shell. The axle journals are supported on a supporting element (13) surrounding the axle journal (12) by at least two bearing elements (14, 15) located at a distance from each other in the axial direction (X-X) of the roll, which supporting element (13) for its part is supported on the machine frame structures (R). The first bearing element (14, 15) is supported on the supporting element (13) through a bending mechanism (20, 21), which is used for applying to the first bearing element (14, 15) a force affecting in a radial direction in order to deflect the first bearing element (14, 15) in relation to the central axis (X-X) of the unbent roll, whereby the axle journal (12) will bend in relation to a pivot point which is formed at the second bearing element (14, 15) and a bending moment is applied to the roll shell (11).

  • Patent number: 6120186
Abstract: The invention relates to a lighter bearing assembly, in which the bearing includes an outer sleeve and an inner sleeve that rotate in relation to each other, the outer sleeve being set in a bearing block and the inner sleeve being set on a shaft, and one of the sleeves being arranged for axial movement relative to its support surface, and a pocket being arranged in the movement surface thus formed, to which a lubrication channel extends, to facilitate axial movement, such as that due to thermal expansion, the pocket being formed by a sealed area that delimits part of the movement surface.

  • Patent number: 6083352
Abstract: A shoe press for applying pressure to a moving web of paper or the like includes a press shoe extending along a full width of the web being carried through a nip defined between the shoe and a backing member, a support for the shoe, and a plurality of articulated hydraulic loading cylinders arranged between the support and the shoe for urging the shoe toward the backing member to apply pressure to the web. Each loading cylinder includes a single piston and first and second cylinders attached to the shoe and to the support, respectively. The opposite end portions of the piston are slidably received within the cylinders so as to define working chambers in the cylinders which are pressurizable by hydraulic fluid for urging the two cylinders away from each other.

  • Patent number: 5580424
Abstract: A sealing construction for a suction box of a suction roll in a paper machine and a method for sealing a suction roll in which a seal is arranged in a holder and loading members, preferably at least one loading hose, are arranged between the holder and the seal. The seal is pressed against an inner face of the roll mantle of the suction roll by the pressure of a medium that has been supplied into the loading hose. Locking devices are situated between the seal and the holder to lock the seal in a desired position.

  • Patent number: 4776069
Abstract: A piston-glide shoe combination for use in a zone-adjustable variable-crown roll comprising a stationary central axle and a cylindrical roll mantle rotatably mounted on the central axle, the glide shoes of the combinations being loaded by hydraulic fluid pressure against the inner surface of the roll mantle so as to control the distribution of nip pressure in a nip formed by the variable-crown roll and a counter-roll. The piston-glide shoe combination includes an auxiliary chamber arrangement into which the pressure fluid is passed from the lubrication chambers and/or glide surface regions of the glide shoe through ducts so that when the pressure in the lubrication chambers and/or on the glide surface regions of the glide shoe is reduced, the reduced pressure is transmitted through the duct to a particular auxiliary chamber or chambers so that a torque tending to stabilize the play at the glide surface of the glide shoe that causes the reduced pressure.

  • Patent number: 4747195
Abstract: A roll, for use in the dewatering press of a paper machine or a calender roll, having adjustable zones. The roll has a non-revolving massive central axle, on which a substantially cylindrical roll mantle is journalled to rotate. Between the central axis and an inner face of the roll mantle, a loading piston-cylinder group or block arrangement is situated, having pistons which can be loaded by hydraulic fluid pressure against the inner face of the roll mantle so as to adjust distribution of pressure in zones along the roll. The loading piston-cylinder group or block arrangement comprises a substantially elongated or oblong cylinder group or block fitted into an axially-extending groove along the central axle, with the cylinder group or block being a separate component from the central axle itself. The cylinder group or block is supported only in the regions of the longitudinal ends thereof upon the central axle, by way of particular supporting arrangements.
