  • Patent number: 7830826
Abstract: Exchanging data between a mobile device and a network involves receiving, via the network, multicast service announcements from a plurality of service providers. The multicast service announcements are stored in a cache. A service search request originating from the mobile device is received. A reply to the service search request is determined based on the multicast service announcements stored in the cache. The reply is provided to the mobile device in response to the service search request.

  • Patent number: 7729355
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for handling a request by a first communication device 11 connected to a network of a communication system to establish a packet switched session with a second, wireless communication device 12, which session requires the second communication device 12 to be connected to a network which enables the establishment of the session. In order to enable an enhanced handling of such a request, it is proposed that it is first determined whether the second communication device 12 is currently connected to such a network. In case it is determined that the second device 12 is not connected to such a network, a corresponding indication is transmitted to the first device 11. The user of the first device 11 is then informed via the first device 11 that the requested session cannot be established. The invention relates equally to a communication system enabling such a method and to corresponding elements 11, 13 of such a system.

  • Publication number: 20090077189
Abstract: Application layer signaling is provided from users registering at a presence server for a presence service wherein upon reception the signaling is checked for spatial location information and stored for future use in providing the presence service in association with other user information, such as user identity. The application layer signaling may be in accordance with the session initiation protocol (SIP) and the spatial location information provided as a spatial location payload (SLoP). The presence service may provide access to the spatial location information to one or more location based services either openly or confidentially by hiding the user's identity and other information. The spatial location information may also be used in conjunction with a messaging service for providing messages to the users with enhanced functionality.

  • Patent number: 7480915
Abstract: Mapping functionality is added in between a Wireless Village (WV) server and a Presence, Messaging and Group (PMG) server of a 3GPP IP (Internet Protocol) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) to permit interoperability between WV and IMS clients for instant messaging and presence services for operators who have deployed both IMS and WV. Due to the possibility that an operator may have deployed WV but not IMS and due to the use of a Client-to-Server Protocol (CSP) between WV clients and WV servers and the use of a Server-to-Server Protocol (SSP) between WV servers, the mapping functionality is structured to permit an IMS device to register into WV system via an IMS/WV Relay that performs an SIP/CSP conversion to emulate a WV device login but to then use the SSP to maintain a session or to deliver a message or presence information. Likewise, a WV device can register directly into IMS for operators not deploying WV using the mapping functionality of the present invention, e.g., in an IMS/WV Relay.

  • Patent number: 7468983
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for communicating codec related information between a first mobile communication device (UE1) and a second mobile communication device (UE2) via a network. The codec related information relates to operational modes of an adaptive multi-rate (AMR) codec. The information is transmitted by the first mobile communication device (UE1) to the second mobile communication device (UE2) in a form of a binary mask in an SDP (Session Description Protocol) body (33) of a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) INVITE message (31), a value of 1 indicating the operational modes which are supported by the first mobile communication device (UE1). In the event that the network does not support at least one of the operational modes that the codec related information indicates as being supported the network modifies the codec related information accordingly.

  • Patent number: 7421732
Abstract: Generic Internet Protocol (IP) authentication is provided by authentication server (134). Application Programming Interface (API) (310) detects the protocol type of an incoming authentication request and invokes one of a number of authentication mechanisms (318-326) depending on the protocol type detected. A localized repository (520) is provided to store Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) information and other algorithm data as required to facilitate the authentication session.

  • Publication number: 20080130639
Abstract: Providing a software update service involves discovering, via an ad-hoc peer-to-peer network, a peer-to-peer software update service using a service discovery protocol of the ad-hoc peer-to-peer network. The peer-to-peer software update service is offered by a peer device and facilitates updates of programs via the ad-hoc, peer-to-peer network. In response to discovering the peer-to-peer software update service, an update is selected that is applicable to a program of a first device of the ad-hoc peer-to-peer network. The update is sent to the first device and the program of the first device is modified using the update.

  • Publication number: 20070286100
Abstract: Local discovery of mobile network services involves coupling a communications device to a local network segment of a mobile data network. An announcement is sent from the communication device and/or a network entity (such as a network proxy) describing a service available via the respective devices. The announcement is receivable by any device on the local network segment. A request is received at the device for a detailed description of the service information in response to the announcement.

  • Publication number: 20070254630
Abstract: A method, a terminal, and a server are provided to enable to remotely and securely grant, by an owner of a server, access to the server for a third party. A mechanism is defined to establish a trust relationship between a mobile device and a home gateway while in a home network and later to use that trust relationship when granting access to the home network (via remote access through the home gateway) to other devices.

  • Publication number: 20070254634
Abstract: A configuration for a local network device is downloaded via a mobile device management service of a wireless provider network. The configuration is applied to the device via the local network, and the service is enabled via a mobile communications device in response to applying the configuration. In another arrangement, a configuration is downloaded to a control device of the local network from a service entity of a remote network. The configuration is applied, via the local network using the control device, to a gateway device that couples the local network with the remote network. The configuration is applied to a mobile communications device via the local network using the control device. The mobile communications device is then enabled to access the local network from the external network via the gateway device.

  • Publication number: 20070208948
Abstract: A plug-and-play (PnP) for configuring security in a PnP architecture includes a security manager and a PnP device. The PnP device is adapted to send a device description document to a user entity. The device description document includes an address pointing to the security manager, and as such, the user entity is capable of accessing the security manager based upon the address. The security manager is adapted to authenticate the user entity, and it authenticated, to communicate with the user entity to configure application-layer security of the PnP device, whereby configuring the application-layer security includes creating an access control list (ACL) document for restricting access to a service of the PnP device. In a further aspect, the PnP device may bootstrap establishing its link-layer security with configuring its application-layer security.

  • Publication number: 20070162755
Abstract: A system for selectively granting access rights within a network. When a requesting device learns that a device is a secure device and is owned by a Security Console, the requesting device calls a listowners action to the secure device, which respond by transmitting a public key hash to the requesting device. The requesting device then multicasts a message including the public key hash. Security Consoles receiving the multicast message then determine whether they recognize the public key hash. If a Security Console recognizes the public key hash, then it responds to the multicast message and subsequently provides the requesting device with access rights to the secure device.

  • Publication number: 20070162980
Abstract: A Content Directory Service (CDS) security service specifying, in a user friendly manner, which users of a media server or other UPnP device own which content. The security service also permits the owners of content to control who is permitted to read the content. A CDS account manager is used to define user accounts and associated rights, such as validity periods and default rights. The CDS account manager is used by a security console which owns the media server. A CDS content manager is used to manipulate the rights to objects. The CDS content manager is used by a registered security aware control point (i.e., a control point associated with a user account) and can be used to change read and write access lists on the object.
