  • Publication number: 20040203978
Abstract: A communication system (100) for bridging talk groups includes private network communication devices (102) operating within a private network system, and public network communication devices (110, 122, 112) operating within a public network system. At least one communication subsystem (104) is operable with both the private and public network systems. The communication subsystem (104) relays information between the private network communication devices (102) and the public network communication devices (110, 122, 112).

  • Publication number: 20040203875
Abstract: The invention provides a cellular telephone or other communications device with improved satellite positioning capability. A location reference point and a selective uncertainty range may be used as aiding information to seed a global positioning calculation. In embodiments, the location reference point may represent the location of the cellular service site or other network service site serving the communications device. In embodiments, the selective uncertainty may be selected from a plurality of possible uncertainties and may represent an approximate distance from the communications device to the location reference point. In other embodiments, the selective uncertainty may represent a range of possible locations within a network service area.

  • Publication number: 20040192335
Abstract: Location information is acquired through a public network system (102, 106) and transferred over to a private network system (104, 108) in order to improve location accuracy and reduce search time for a two-way radio (104).

  • Patent number: 6718164
Abstract: A communication device (100, 200) capable of transmitting information provides the means for regulating the temperature (116) of one or more heat-sensitive modules or components (160) of the communication device through the adaptive and dynamic control of the flow of transmissions by the communication device, thereby eliminating the need for stored thermal profiles of heat-sensitive modules of the communication device. In addition to the heat-sensitive module(s), the communication device has a multi-logic controller block (110) and a transmission flow control block (140). The multi-logic controller block (110) receives the temperature of the heat-sensitive module (116) and a first control clock (112) and utilizes multi-value logic to generate a flow control signal having hysteresis (126).

  • Patent number: 6701160
Abstract: A mobile communication device (100) contains a memory (110), a controller (112) and transceiver components (120, 122, 124, 126). When an incoming call signal is received (314), the controller compares the source identifier with various lists (210, 240, 270) stored in the memory. If the source identifier is contained on a rejection list, the call is rejected. If the source identifier is contained on an acceptance list, the call is received normally, unless a do not disturb feature is active. The lists may be fixed or selectable. Selectable lists are configurable by the user of the mobile communication device, whereas fixed list types cannot be changed by the user of the mobile communication device.

  • Patent number: 6606083
Abstract: An integrated antenna and input device is provided that includes an antenna for transmitting and/or receiving electronic signals, and strain sensing elements coupled to the antenna. The strain sensing elements detect directional movement of the antenna. Additionally, an electronic communication device is provided. The device includes a graphical display, a control circuit, an antenna, and at least one sensor. The control circuit displays information on the graphical display, and the antenna transmits and/or receives electronic signals. The sensor is coupled to the antenna and the control circuit, and relays directional movement of the antenna to the control circuit to navigate the displayed information or select specific functions of the communication device.

  • Patent number: 6477368
Abstract: A method utilizes a training monitoring algorithm to control when full training of a transmitter of a shared communication system that utilizes dynamic channel allocation occurs. Full training of the transmitter occurs during an initial transmission slot of a training interval that is used to request allocation of fixed communication resources of the communication system or when operating conditions of the transmitter, such as power and frequency, change. The duration of the training interval is dynamically controlled by manipulation of full-power and cut-back power training interval counters.

  • Publication number: 20020072388
Abstract: A multi-mode wireless communication device (100) such as a cellular telephone. The communication device is capable of operating with a plurality of affiliations. A memory (110) contains timed affiliation profiles (111) for a plurality of timed affiliations (150, 160). Under control of a controller (112), time information broadcast over a system control channel is compared with information stored in memory (111) to determine which of a plurality of affiliations the communication device should be registered under. The controller (112) directs the communication device to register under a new affiliation or otherwise modify affiliations when a time associated with a timed affiliation profile (111) is reached.

  • Patent number: 6377808
Abstract: A controller in a communication device receives a request, from a process operating in the communication device, to subscribe to a data routing service that is managed by the controller. In response to the request, the controller assigns a destination identifier to the process and adds the process and the assigned destination identifier to a routing table that is stored in a memory associated with the controller. Data subsequently received from a data source is routed to the process or to one of multiple communication ports by the controller by reference to the destination identifier, or the absence of a destination identifier, stored in the routing table.
