    Abstract: A coupling for connecting a cylinder valve on an LPG tank to the inlet of a pressure regulator for gas consuming equipment comprises a nipple having an upstream end for connection with the cylinder valve and a downstream end for connection with the pressure regulator, and a plastic coupling nut for connecting the nipple to the cylinder valve. The end wall of the coupling nut has a metal heat transfer washer on the inner side thereof, and a pressure responsive flexible shutoff valve plate is provided in the nipple passageway. The shutoff valve plate closes the passageway in response to a pressure differential thereacross of no more than 15 psi, and the end wall of the coupling nut and the heat transfer washer are responsive to a temperature of between 240° F. and 300° F. to release the nipple for displacement away from the cylinder valve in the direction downstream of the nipple.

    Abstract: A cartridge valve assembly is slidably and sealingly receivable in a recess therefor in the housing of a pressure regulator for supplied air breathing apparatus. The cartridge valve is preassembled and slidably inserted as a unit in the pressure regulator housing recess, and the body is provided with an external shoulder engaged by a headed fastener in the housing to retain the cartridge valve assembly in the housing recess. The cartridge comprises a cylindrical body having a bore therethrough in which a valve stem is slidably supported for a valve element thereon to open and close the bore at one end thereof providing an air outlet for the valve. An air inlet port opens radially through the body into the bore, and the outer surface of the body carries O-ring seals on axially opposite sides of the air inlet port which sealingly engage the cartridge recess. The end of the body opposite the air inlet pivotally supports a valve stem actuating lever arm.

    Abstract: A wheel and axle assembly is provided for a vehicle having on onboard system for controlling the pressure of air in a tire of the vehicle. The assembly comprises a stationary axle housing and a rotatable hub which carries the vehicle tire and which is mounted on the axle housing for rotation thereabout by first and second axially spaced bearing units each having inner and outer races and tapered roller bearings therebetween. Axially spaced first and second seal assemblies are provided between the axle housing and hub to provide a sealed air chamber therebetween, and one of the bearing units is in the air chamber adjacent the first seal assembly which is connected to a source of air under pressure on the vehicle. The flow path extends through the air chamber and includes a port in the hub opening into the chamber and connected in flow communication with the vehicle tire.

    Abstract: A wheel seal assembly is provided for a vehicle having an onboard system for controlling the pressure of air in a tire of the vehicle. The wheel seal assembly comprises a first annular seal members coaxial with the vehicle axle housing and mounted thereon for axial displacement relative thereto and toward and away from a second annular seal member coaxial with the first seal member and supported on the corresponding wheel assembly of the vehicle which is mounted on the axle housing for rotation relative thereto. The annular seal members may be mounted on the axle housing directly through or integrally with the associated rotating or non-rotating wheel bearing race. The two seal members have annular planar sealing surfaces facially engaging one another and flow passageways therethrough to provide for the flow of air across the seal members during inflation and deflation of the corresponding vehicle tire.

    Abstract: Portable emergency breathing apparatus is disclosed which is comprised of a unitary, generally flat manifold having opposite ends and top and bottom sides and a manifold passageway between the opposite ends. Three parallel, laterally juxtaposed compressed gas containers are mounted on the bottom side of the manifold by means of coupling components extending through the manifold from the top side and into internally threaded necks of the containers. Each of the coupling components provides flow communication between the interior of the corresponding container and the manifold passageway, and a shut-off and pressure reducing valve assembly is mounted on the manifold between two of the containers. The valve assembly has upper and lower portions respectively adjacent the top and bottom sides of the manifold with the lower portion disposed in the space between the necks of the two adjacent containers.
