Patent number: 8021106Abstract: A guide device with adjustable guide vanes is provided with a drive for the adjustable guide vanes, in which a cylindrical driving pin and an adjusting lever are provided each with one surface pair which are matched to one another and which slide on one another in operation when the guide vanes are being adjusted. To adjust the guide vanes, the adjusting ring is moved, by which the driving pin attached to the adjusting ring slides in an elongated groove of the adjusting lever and applies a force to the adjusting lever. This approach yields an economical and durable structure which is easy to install. This results in surface support with the corresponding low compressive loads per unit area and consequently greatly reduced wear.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2007Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: ABB Turbo Systems AGInventor: Josef Bättig

Patent number: 7997857Abstract: Numerous cavities exist in a turbocharger for reasons of construction. If such cavities are filled with particles, inexpensive particle vibration dampers can be realized. Moreover, advantages with regard to additional containment security result in the case of possible bursting of the compressor wheel, and also with regard to noise suppression.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2009Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignee: ABB Turbo Systems AGInventors: Josef Bättig, Karl-Heinz Rohne, Alfons Tröndle

Patent number: 7850421Abstract: A stator arrangement, or distributor, for a turbine machine is disclosed which includes a guide blade. The blade shaft is supported to be able to pivot around the pivot axis, with a part which is to be guided being situated to the outside. The pivoting device contains a setting ring which is located outside a flow channel and which can be pivoted around the turbine axis, and adjusting levers which transmit torque from the setting ring to the blade shaft of each guide blade. The adjusting lever is slipped with one end onto the blade shaft. The other end can be configured as a ball head, the adjusting levers being guided in a groove of the setting ring. The surface which acts on the ball head of the adjusting lever for transmission of torque from the setting ring to the blade shaft of each guide blade can be configured as a ball socket. Exemplary embodiments can yield a uniform large-area pressure distribution by which the wear of the parts which press on one another can be distinctly reduced.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2007Date of Patent: December 14, 2010Assignee: ABB Turbo Systems AGInventors: Josef Bättig, Robert Dötl

Patent number: 7771161Abstract: Guide vanes are supported in a two-part or multipart housing (32, 33). Housing separation takes place radially in the region of the bearing point (25) of the vane shaft so that the separating joint (36) between the housing parts (32, 33) leads through the bearing openings (34) which are designed to hold the vane shafts. The completely round opening (34) leads to the bearing point of the vane shaft having large-area support in any position. Thus high surface pressures can be avoided.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2007Date of Patent: August 10, 2010Assignee: ABB Turbo Systems AGInventors: Josef Bättig, Jean-Yves Werro, Janpeter Kühnel

Publication number: 20070231125Abstract: The preswirl guide device for generating a preswirl in the intake region of a compressor comprises a multiplicity of guide vanes, which are pivotable about a respective vane shank connected to the guide vane, and a pivotable adjusting ring and adjusting levers for transmitting torque from the adjusting ring to the vane shank of each guide vane. The vane shank and the adjusting lever of the respective guide vanes are of one-piece design. The casing in which the guide vanes are rotatably mounted consists of at least two parts joined together in the region of the bearings of the guide vanes. Due to the one-piece design of the guide vane, the number of components to be fitted is reduced. This simplifies the fitting and possible service work on the guide device.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 28, 2007Publication date: October 4, 2007Applicant: ABB Turbo Systems AGInventors: Daniel Oeschger, Josef Battig, Adrian Kopp, Janpeter Kuhnel

Publication number: 20070101713Abstract: An exhaust-gas turbocharger with a compressor casing, turbine housing and bearing housing is supported on a base in the area of the bearing housing by means of a first support and in the area of the turbine housing by means of a second support. The second support is made in at least two parts, whereby the two parts can be moved relative to one another in the support direction. As a result, the length of the supports can be varied and counterbalance a temperature-related raising or lowering of the exhaust-gas turbocharger housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 16, 2006Publication date: May 10, 2007Applicant: ABB TURBO SYSTEMS AGInventors: Josef Battig, Marcel Meier, Jean-Yves Werro, Ulrich Wellenkamp

Patent number: 7008182Abstract: The exhaust-gas turbine comprises a turbine wheel arranged on a shaft, a bearing casing for the bearing arrangement of the rotatable shaft, a gas-inlet casing supported on the bearing casing and concentrically surrounding the bearing casing in the supporting region, and a centering ring for centering the gas-inlet casing relative to the shaft mounted in the bearing casing. The centering ring and either the bearing casing or the gas-inlet casing comprise grooves and either radially or axially unidirectional centering lugs for engaging in the grooves. Due to the radially or axially unidirectional centering lugs with corresponding grooves, at least one of the connections between the bearing casing and the centering ring and the centering ring and the gas-inlet casing is not positive-locking, as a result of which any desired positioning of the gas-inlet casing relative to the bearing casing is made possible.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2004Date of Patent: March 7, 2006Assignee: ABB Turbo Systems AGInventors: Adrian Kopp, Josef Bättig, Marcel Meier

Patent number: 6918723Abstract: The shaft is connected to the shaft attachment by a thread. A bore with an internal thread is incorporated in the shaft attachment and the shaft has a corresponding stem which can be introduced into the threaded bore and has an external thread. An axial stop is arranged on the shaft and on the shaft attachment. The internal and external threads have torque-transmitting flanks which are flat toward the axis and which can be connected to one another frictionally by radial pressure by mutual rotation of shaft and shaft attachment with interaction between the axial stops. Owing to the small angle between the load-bearing flanks and the axis, the radial pressure decisive for the torque transmission is correspondingly greater than in conventional threaded connections. As a result, the axial prestressing force between the two parts to be connected can be correspondingly reduced.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2004Date of Patent: July 19, 2005Assignee: ABB Turbo Systems AGInventors: Josef Bättig, Alfred Müller, Balz Flury
