Patent number: 7674979Abstract: The invention relates to a synthetic material end for a DC electric cable. In the invention, the synthetic material end includes a composite insert that is placed between the inner insulator and the outer insulating sleeve of the cable, the insert generally being in the form of a sheath surrounding the inner insulator over a partially-stripped portion of the cable, and being made up of a resistive portion of high resistivity, and of a semi-conductive portion of lower resistivity, the interface between said resistive and semi-conductive portions forming a deflector, the end of the resistive portion that is remote from the deflector being electrically connected to the central conductor of the cable, and the end of the semi-conductive portion that is remote from the deflector being electrically connected to the outer semi-conductor of the cable. Application to making connections to high-voltage electric cables.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2008Date of Patent: March 9, 2010Assignee: NexansInventors: Hakim Janah, Pierre Mirebeau, Josef Cardinaels, Francois Gahungu, Jerome Matallana

Patent number: 6624357Abstract: A tubular cable adapter for use in jointing and/or terminating a medium voltage medium voltage paper insulated cable is provided. The cable adapter includes an impregnating compound barrier sleeve (1), a semi-conductive layer (2) partially covering the impregnating compound barrier sleeve, and a support member (3) for maintaining the impregnating compound barrier sleeve and the semi-conductive layer in a radial expanded state, the support member being removable from said impregnating compound barrier sleeve. The tubular cable adapter also has a conductive member (4) covering, at least partially, the impregnating compound barrier sleeve (1) and the semi-conductive conductive member layer (2).Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2001Date of Patent: September 23, 2003Assignee: NexansInventor: Josef Cardinaels

Patent number: 6495757Abstract: A semi-conductive tubular assembly (30) or molded rubber cap is used in a cable joint for medium voltage electric power cables (10, 20). The conductors (13, 23) of the cables are connected together by a connector (40) constituted by a bolted contact assembly having a tubular shape and wherein the conductor ends are maintained by bolts. Two rubber caps (30a, 30b) preferably overlap each other in the middle of the connector. Each cap has an internal shape adapted to compensate for the gap resulting from the difference in diameter between the conductor insulation and the connector, as well as for the eccentric position of the latter with respect to the conductors. By mating the change of shape (31a, 31b) between the underlying connector (40) and the conductor insulation (12, 22), the caps provide a relatively cheap and efficient solution for an electrically reliable product, e.g. by reducing local electric stresses.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2001Date of Patent: December 17, 2002Assignee: NexansInventors: Eddy Van Boxstael, Josef Cardinaels, Jo De Buyst
