  • Patent number: 6174569
Abstract: The invention relates to three-layer metal pipe coating compositions based on a powder primer, on a thermoplastic hard adhesive and on a polyolefin cladding. The powder primer contains epoxidized novolak resins, phenolic crosslinking agents and fillers based on crystalline silicic acid modifications. The invention likewise relates to a process for the exterior coating of metal pipes by a three-layer method, in which the powder primer described is applied to the metal pipe, a thermoplastic hard adhesive is applied to the powder primer, and subsequently a polyolefin cladding is applied.

  • Patent number: 6099899
Abstract: A method for obtaining a cured multi-layer coating with good intercoat adhesion, comprising the steps of:a) applying to a substrate a first powder coating composition comprisingi) a polyester resin having a carboxyl functionality of less than two,ii) a crosslinker reactive toward the carboxyl groups of the polyester resin selected from the group consisting of epoxy-functional compounds, wherein the ratio of epoxy groups of the crosslinker to the carboxyl groups of the polyester is between 1.05:1 and 1.9:1,b) applying to the first coating layer at least one additional coating composition comprising a clearcoat includingi) a hydroxyl functional acrylic resin andii) a crosslinker reactive toward the hydroxyl groups on the acrylic resin,c) curing the coating compositions together or sequentially.

  • Patent number: 6096807
Abstract: Powder coating, process for the exterior coating of metal pipes, and use of the powder coating for the single-layer exterior coating of metal pipes. The powder coating comprises epoxy resins, phenolic crosslinking agents, catalysts, fillers and additives. The fillers used are crystalline silicic acids modified with glycidyl groups. The invention also relates to a process for the exterior coating of metal pipes and to use of the coatings for a single layer exterior coating of metal pipes.

  • Patent number: 5855964
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of a multicoat finish, in which a pigmented basecoat is applied, dried and coated over with a powder clearcoat, and subsequently basecoat and powder clearcoat are stoved together. The invention is characterized in that the powder clearcoat employed has a particle size distribution in whicha) no more than 15% by weight of the powder clearcoat particles have a particle size smaller than 10 .mu.m;b) for at least 40% by weight of the powder clearcoat particles the common logarithm of the quotient of the largest and the smallest particle size is less than or equal to 0.25; andc) at least 98% by weight of the powder clearcoat particles have a particle size smaller than 100 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 5601878
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of two-coat finishes, in which a pigmented basecoat is first applied, the resulting basecoat film is coated with a powder clearcoat, and basecoat and clearcoat are subsequently baked together. In accordance with the invention, the powder clearcoat employed is a powder coating which contains an epoxide group-containing polyacrylate resin as binder and a mixture of (A) a polyanhydride and (B) a carboxyl group-containing polyester resin as crosslinking agent. The polyester resin can be prepared by reacting a diol (b1), a compound (b2) which contains per molecule at least three functional groups selected from hydroxyl, primary amino, secondary amino, carboxyl and acid anhydride groups, and (b3) a dicarboxylic acid in a molar ratio of (b1): (b2): (b3)=0.0 to 3.0: 1.0: 1.5 to 9.0 to give a polyester resin having an acid value of 40 to 300.
