Patent number: 11308540Abstract: A system and method for providing recommendations to at least one user is disclosed. A user profile for the user is obtained. Data is identified in the user indicative of interests of the users. This is stored in a profile store. Activity profiles and profiles of reviewers of the activity are created. A match between the author profiles, the user profiles and the activity profiles are identified. From these matches a list of activities is generated and presented to the user to select an activity to engage in.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2017Date of Patent: April 19, 2022Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Arindam Bhowmick, Carlos Chivardi, Jennifer M. Hatfield, Gregory S. Hurlebaus, Josef Scherpa

Patent number: 11100535Abstract: A system and method for providing a group recommendation is disclosed. First a group having at least one member is defined. A group profile having at least one activity and a set of conditions for the activity are created. Based on the set of conditions a corresponding set of trigger events are identified. A number of electronic data sources are monitored for information related to set of conditions. The monitored set of conditions are compared against the set of trigger events. If the threshold between the set of conditions and the set of trigger events is met, then an alert is generated that is presented to the members of the group.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2017Date of Patent: August 24, 2021Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Arindam Bhowmick, Carlos Chivardi, Jennifer M. Hatfield, Gregory S. Hurlebaus, Josef Scherpa

Patent number: 10824806Abstract: A system and method for providing counter intuitive recommendations to a user. A user profile is obtained for the user. A determination is made that a trigger condition has occurred for the user. The duration of the trigger condition is also determined. The trigger condition is associated with the user's profile. A request for a recommendation is received, and a list of recommendations is obtained. The recommendations are compared against the trigger condition to determine if the recommendation is compatible with the trigger condition. Those recommendations determined not to be compatible with the trigger condition are removed from the set of recommendations.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2019Date of Patent: November 3, 2020Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Arindam Bhowmick, Carlos Chivardi, Jennifer M. Hatfield, Gregory S. Hurlebaus, Josef Scherpa

Patent number: 10630615Abstract: Preserving collaborative history includes detecting a trigger for a chat session between at least two participants using a processor and, responsive to the trigger, obtaining event data for an event occurring during the chat session and involving at least one of the participants. The event data is included within a transcript of the chat session. In other cases, event data is obtained from external systems that is correlated with the chat session and is included within the transcript.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2018Date of Patent: April 21, 2020Assignee: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Josef A. Patent number: 10579645Abstract: A method, computer program product, and/or computer system structures and displays social media feeds from a social media service. A social media feed is received. The social media feed is composed of content postings from multiple sources, where each content posting has metadata that is an attribute of one or more content postings. Multiple icons are generated and displayed on a user interface. Each of the multiple icons graphically represents one of the metadata that is an attribute of one or more content posting. An input, which is received from a user of the user interface, indicates a selection of one of the icons, thus causing the display, on the user interface, of at least one content posting that is associated with the selected icon.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 2015Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Josef Scherpa, Jaime R. Publication number: 20190019217Abstract: A system and method for presenting offers to a group of users is disclosed. An initial profile is created for at least one user and is further enhanced for the user. This is used to build a user profile for the user. A trigger event including a set of profile characteristics is identified. Based on the trigger event a group of users is generated from users in the profile store who have profiles that match the trigger event. An offer is generated for the group of users based upon the trigger event and then presented to the members of the group for them to act upon.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 11, 2017Publication date: January 17, 2019Inventors: Arindam Bhowmick, Carlos Chivardi, Jennifer M. Patent number: 9894114Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for adjusting a display of social media updates to varying degrees of richness. A level of importance for each social media update is identified and assigned to the update. The importance of the social media update can be defined by various aspects, such as topics or people of interest to the user. Furthermore, a current condition of a user's environment (e.g., current workload of the user) is determined. The social media updates are then displayed in a social networking feed with a particular degree of richness at a particular location based on the level of importance of the social media updates, the current condition of the user's environment, and/or the user's interactions with existing updates currently displayed. In this manner, the amount of time required by the user to determine which updates are important to the user is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2013Date of Patent: February 13, 2018Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ethan L. Perry, Josef Scherpa, Andrew L. Schirmer

Patent number: 9740850Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for controlling which users from an organization are to be part of a community space. A community collaboration mechanism provides a list of organizations authorized to collaborate with the organization of the user. The mechanism then receives from the user a selection of organizations from this list of organizations. Upon receiving indication(s) (e.g., e-mail addresses) of users to be added to the community space, the mechanism provides a list of users who are members of the user selected organizations to engage in a collaborative activity with the user based on these indication(s). The mechanism then receives a selection of users from this list of users and adds those users to the community space. In this manner, the user can control which users from an organization are to be part of a community space in an easy and error-free manner.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 2013Date of Patent: August 22, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Mustansir Banatwala, David A. Patent number: 9619780Abstract: A method for improving information exchange in a social network environment. Actions (e.g., copying) being performed on an electronic object (e.g., e-mail) are detected. Furthermore, the entry of the electronic object in a social networking website is detected thereby identifying an association between this electronic object and this social networking website. Rule patterns are identified based on these detected actions and these associations. Indications of these associations are stored in terms of concept nodes in a hierarchical tree using the identified rule patterns. Social networking feeds of interest are then searched using the hierarchical tree as well as a current electronic object of a user (e.g., status message on a social networking feed, e-mail). The user would then be provided an opportunity to repost an information nugget from the current electronic object in one or more of these social networking feeds of interest.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2012Date of Patent: April 11, 2017Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Feng-Wei Chen, John R.
