  • Patent number: 7486434
Abstract: An optical antenna collects, modifies and emits energy at light wavelengths. Linear conductors sized to correspond to the light wavelengths are used. Nonlinear junctions of small dimension are used to rectify an alternating waveform induced upon the conductors by the lightwave electromagnetic energy. The optical antenna and junctions are effective to produce harmonic energy at light wavelengths. The linear conductors may be comprised of carbon nanotubes that are attached to a substrate material, which may then be connected to an electrical port.

  • Patent number: 7032047
Abstract: A method of regulating usage and/or concession eligibility in a smart card system is described herein. A card acceptance location (110) detects a presence of a smart card and determines its identification code. The card acceptance location (110) checks the identification code against a list stored locally at the card acceptance location (110). The card acceptance location (110) received the list from a second device. If the identification code of the smart card is listed on the list, the card acceptance location (110) performs an action on the smart card.

  • Publication number: 20060060362
Abstract: An exterior fire suppression system includes a sprinkler system that is connected to a water supply. The sprinkler system is mounted within the structure and is substantially hidden from view when the system is inactive. The system may include roof sprinklers and eave sprinklers that are adapted to saturate the exterior of the structure when the system is activated. Each roof sprinkler is a popup sprinkler installed within a facade that is an aesthetic match with the structure's roof and may be installed within a sprinkler box underneath the roofline. Each eave sprinkler is installed within the eave, substantially hidden from view. A heat sensor may be disposed adjacent to the eave sprinkler and connected to an electronic control to activate the system when excessive heat is detected.

  • Patent number: 6881250
Abstract: The present invention relates to an ink composition including water, a solvent, a solvent-soluble dye, and a surfactant, where the ink exhibits a stable liquid microemulsion phase at a first temperature and a second temperature higher than the first temperature and has a conductivity of at most about 200 ?S/cm and a dielectric constant of at least about 60, and methods of making such ink compositions. The present invention also relates to a method of making an ink composition for use in a microelectromechanical system-based fluid ejector. The method involves providing a solution or dispersion including a dye or a pigment and adding to the solution or dispersion an additive which includes a material that enhances dielectric permittivity and/or reduces conductivity under conditions effective to produce an ink composition having a conductivity of at most about 200 ?S/cm and a dielectric constant of at least about 60.
