Patent number: 6471674Abstract: A fluid delivery system for delivery of an injection fluid to a patient generally includes a pump system to pressurize the injection fluid, a patient interface in removable fluid connection with the pump system, and a connector in fluid connection between the pump system and the patient interface. The pump system is connected to an inlet of the connector, and the patient interface is removably connected to an outlet of the connector. The connector includes a sealing member at least partly disposed within a housing of the connector that is biased to close the outlet when the patient interface is removed.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2000Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: Medrad, Inc.Inventors: Michael F. Emig, Klaus Urich, Frederick Trombley, III, Joseph B. Havrilla, Edward J. Rhinehart, Gerald W. Callan

Patent number: 6402717Abstract: A front-loading syringe which comprises a movable plunger for injecting liquid contrast media, is rotatably mountable on a front wall of an injector housing with an interference fit and in sealed relationship with respect thereto, with or without a pressure jacket, by a first-quick release mechanism. At the same time, the plunger is connected to an injector drive mechanism by a second readily releasable mechanism. During the mounting operation, a sensor reads injection information from an indicator device on the syringe and feeds it to an injector control. An audible-and-tactile indicating mechanism also is activated when the syringe is essentially in the desired mounted position. The syringe may include reinforcing ribs which also function as volumetric gradations, and liquid media presence-or-absence indicating dots which appear circular against a liquid media background and oval-shaped against an air background.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1999Date of Patent: June 11, 2002Assignee: Medrad, Inc.Inventors: David M. Reilly, Joseph B. Havrilla, Eugene A. Gelblum, Daniel Kazousky

Patent number: 6063052Abstract: The present invention provides a number of pumping systems and injection systems particularly useful for injecting a liquid medium into a patient. In general, the pumping systems comprise a removable pumping unit. The removable pumping unit includes means for pressurizing the liquid medium via the rotational displacement of the liquid medium. The present invention also provides a pumping system comprising a pumping unit for pressurizing the liquid medium and a feedback-controlled drive means in connection with the pumping unit for providing a controlled powered drive to the pumping unit. The pumping system further comprises a flow meter for measuring the flow rate of the pressurized liquid medium exiting the pumping system and control means in communicative connection with the drive means for providing a control signal to control the powered drive provided to the pumping unit.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1998Date of Patent: May 16, 2000Assignee: Medrad, Inc.Inventors: Arthur E. Patent number: 5520653Abstract: The adapters of the present invention are used for releasably attaching syringes of various types having a body, a plunger reciprocally mounted therein, and a flange near the rear end of the syringe body, to a front-loading injector head. In a preferred embodiment, the adapter includes a syringe carrier having a front end, a rear end, and syringe retaining channel located between the carrier front and rear ends for engaging at least a portion of the syringe flange; mounting flanges near the carrier rear end for releasably mounting the carrier in a desired position relative to the front wall of the injector head; a follower reciprocally mounted within the carrier having a front end engagable with the syringe plunger when the syringe is installed in the carrier; and a drive head opening communicating with a pair of drive head slots positioned proximate to the rear end of the follower for releasably mounting the follower in a desired position relative to the drive head of the injector head.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1995Date of Patent: May 28, 1996Assignee: Medrad, Inc.Inventors: David M.
