Patent number: 6851438Abstract: An ergonomically enhanced crutch that has a unitary upright member that is readily manufacturable and which has a upper section and a lower section that are generally straight sections. An intermediate section forms an indentation and a handle extends from the indentation outwardly for gripping by the patent. The crutch also includes an upper arm cradle that is affixed to the unitary upright member in a telescoping manner and its location is adjustable by the user to a comfortable position. Similarly, a bottom member is telescopingly affixed to the lower section and can be adjusted along the length of the lower section for the convenience and comfort of the patient. The upper arm cradle thus is angularly inclined upwardly in the direction the patient is facing to provide added comfort for the patient.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2003Date of Patent: February 8, 2005Assignee: Tubular Fabricators IndustryInventor: Joseph Battiston

Publication number: 20040163167Abstract: A commode is disclosed having a specially configured pan that can be used as a splash guard when the commode is used in conjunction with a household toilet and the same configuration or shape can be used as a pail for a stand alone commode. In either case, the pan pan in intended for use with a commode seat having an elongated opening and thus has an upper opening that is generally rectangular in configuration. The pan also has a sloping front surface that directs the waste products rearwardly and downwardly to a circular bottom. The centerline of the circular bottom is displaced rearwardly with respect to the midpoint of the front to back length of the pan so that the pan can be used over a household toilet and the waste products are directed to the center of the receiving portion of that toilet.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2004Publication date: August 26, 2004Inventor: Joseph Battiston

Patent number: 6378143Abstract: A foldable commode which includes: a platform having a pair of slotted members depending from the bottom, each slotted member defining a race extending from front to rear; a first U-shaped leg member having a pair of legs connected by a bight portion slidably disposed in the races; a second U-shaped leg member having a pair of legs connected by a bight portion, the top portions being pivotally mounted on opposite sides of the rear end of the platform, wherein the middle portion of each of the legs of the second U-shaped leg member is pivotally attached to the middle portion of a respective one of the legs of the first U-shaped leg member; a receptacle support member disposed intermediate the front and rear ends of the platform; and a receptacle which depends from the receptacle support member.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2000Date of Patent: April 30, 2002Assignee: Tubular Fabricators IndustryInventors: Joseph Battiston, David Battiston

Patent number: 6371142Abstract: A seated walker has a frame that includes pair of inverted U-shaped side members and a cross bar. A seat is pivotally affixed to the frame and is movable between an upper position where the seat is generally vertical and out of the way of the user and a lower position where the seat is generally horizontal and can be utilized by the user to sit down. An elastic cord is affixed to the frame of the seated walker and encircles the seat so that the seat is biased toward its upper position. By use of the elastic cord, a user can disable the biasing function by hand to remove the elastic cord from encircling the seat and, engage the biasing. Thus, the user can use or not use the biasing function as desired. As a further feature, the seat can be pivotally affixed to a front cross bar and is supported by a pair of generally L-shaped members extending outwardly from the underside of the seat and which rest upon pair of side braces that are positioned lower on the frame than the front cross bar.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1999Date of Patent: April 16, 2002Assignee: Tubular Fabricators IndustryInventor: Joseph Battiston

Patent number: 6340205Abstract: A foldable bench has a first leg member having a top portion and a bottom portion, a second leg member having a top portion and a bottom portion, and a seat having a top surface, a bottom surface, and an attachment member for slidably attaching the top portion of one of the leg members and for pivotally attaching the other leg member below the top surface of the seat, thereby preventing the top portion of each of the leg members from separating from the seat. In a first resting position, the first and second leg members are substantially disposed adjacent the seat, and in a second resting position, the first and second leg members generally criss-cross each other and generally extend away from the seat. A backrest may be attached to the seat, preferably pivotally. In a first resting position, the backrest is substantially disposed adjacent the seat. In a second resting position, the backrest is substantially disposed away from the seat.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 1999Date of Patent: January 22, 2002Assignee: Tubular Fabricators IndustryInventor: Joseph Battiston
