  • Patent number: 5053038
Abstract: A compression surgical staple for bone to bone fixation along a fracture line includes spring means for driving the fractured interfaces together.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 17, 1989
Date of Patent: October 1, 1991
    Assignee: Tenstaple, Inc.
    Inventor: Joseph C. M. Sheehan
  • Patent number: 4702251
Abstract: A wound closure device includes first and second attachment members, each of which defines a concave skin contacting surface shaped to bond adhesively to the skin on a respective side of a wound. A bridge is provided to hold the two attachment members in abutting alignment to close the wound. The attachment members are sufficiently resilient to evert the skin on both sides of the wound to bring the skin into healing alignment across the wound. In this way, both the epidermis and the germinal layer or dermis of the skin can be aligned properly to minimize scar tissue formation.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 5, 1985
Date of Patent: October 27, 1987
    Assignee: Kells Medical, Incorporated
    Inventor: Joseph C. M. Sheehan
  • Patent number: 4620319
Abstract: A collapsible bag frame includes a one piece part which defines a frame, a mounting member, and two tabs. The mounting member is hinged to the frame, and the tabs are hinged to the frame. A bag such as a garbage bag is secured to the frame by a wire clamp. The tabs are movable from a first position, in which the frame is allowed to rest alongside a wall, and a second position, in which the tabs hold the frame out from the wall, thereby positioning the frame for use.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 8, 1985
Date of Patent: October 28, 1986
    Assignee: Kells Medical, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4605005
Abstract: A wound closure device includes an elongated strip which defines first and second end sections and a central section. The central section includes a resilient element which defines a convex, generally cylindrical shape. In use, the entire strip, including both the end sections and the central section, is adhesively affixed to the skin with the resilient element flattened. Then the resilient element is allowed to return to its initial convex shape, thereby everting the skin in order to align both the epidermis and the germinal layer of the skin across the wound.

  • Patent number: 4535772
Abstract: An improved skin closure device is disclosed which includes a pair of attachment members adapted to be positioned along either side of a wound to be closed, wherein the wound is of the type having a denuded region between the marginal edges of the wound. The device includes a plurality of pins associated with the attachment members for the purpose of mechanically securing the attachment members to underlying skin layers, as well as an adhesive interface adapted to adhesively secure the attachment members to the epidermis. A number of interconnecting devices are disclosed which operate to provide a biasing force tending to bring the two attachment members together in order to close the wound gradually and progressively.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 3, 1983
Date of Patent: August 20, 1985
    Assignee: Kells Medical, Incorporated
    Inventor: Joseph C. M. Sheehan
  • Patent number: 4526173
Abstract: An improved skin closure device is disclosed which includes a pair of parallel members adapted to be positioned along either side of a wound to be closed. The device includes a plurality of pins associated with the parallel members for the purpose of urging the dermis on either side of the wound together, and an adhesive interface adapted to maintain the members in a firmly positioned orientation with respect to the epidermis in order to hold the epidermis on either side of the wound together. Some embodiments of the skin closure device of this invention include a housing adapted to lock the parallel members in place with respect to each other.
