  • Patent number: 7739014
Abstract: A method of controlling a vehicle includes determining a front lateral tire force, a rear lateral tire force, and determining a lineal sideslip angle from the front lateral tire force and the rear lateral tire force. The method also includes determining a load transfer correction. The method also includes determining a final linear lateral velocity in response to the linear sideslip angle and the load transfer correction and controlling the vehicle in response to the final linear lateral velocity.

  • Patent number: 7640081
Abstract: A control system (18) and method for controlling an automotive vehicle (10) includes a number of sensors that are used to generate a potential rollover signal. In response to the potential rollover, active differentials (112, 114, 116) may be used alone or in addition to braking to prevent the vehicle from rolling over.

  • Patent number: 7561951
Abstract: A control system for an automotive vehicle that includes a plurality of dynamics sensors (14) for generating a plurality of dynamic condition signals and also a plurality of environment sensors (16) for generating a plurality of environment signals is provided herein. Vehicle systems such as a driver warning system, a powertrain control module, a restraint control module, and a chassis control module are also provided. A controller (12) is coupled to the plurality of sensors and classifies the operation of the vehicle as controllable stable, controllable unstable, or uncontrollable in response to the plurality of dynamic condition signals and the plurality of environment signals. The controller (12) selects a level of control for the vehicle systems in response to classifying. The level of control is different in response to the respective classification.

  • Patent number: 7451033
Abstract: A system (18) for controlling a safety system (44) of a vehicle (10) is disclosed herein. The system includes a longitudinal acceleration sensor (36), a vehicle or wheel speed sensor(s) (20), a lateral acceleration sensor (32), a yaw rate sensor (28), and a controller (26). The controller determines a stability index and provides a first observer that determines a reference longitudinal velocity in response to the sensors. The controller determines a reference lateral velocity in response to the sensors. The controller provides a second observer that determines a second longitudinal velocity in response to the sensors and a first adjustment based on the reference longitudinal velocity. The controller determines a second lateral velocity in response to the sensors and a second adjustment based on the reference lateral velocity.

  • Patent number: 7130735
Abstract: A stability control system (24) for an automotive vehicle as includes a plurality of sensors (28–37) sensing the dynamic conditions of the vehicle and a controller (26) that controls a distributed brake pressure to reduce a tire moment so the net moment of the vehicle is counter to the roll direction. The sensors include a speed sensor (30), a lateral acceleration sensor (32), a roll rate sensor (34), and a yaw rate sensor (20). The controller (26) is coupled to the speed sensor (30), the lateral acceleration sensor (32), the roll rate sensor (34), the yaw rate sensor (28). The controller (26) determines a roll angle estimate in response to lateral acceleration, roll rate, vehicle speed, and yaw rate. The controller (26) changes a tire force vector using brake pressure distribution in response to the relative roll angle estimate.
