  • Patent number: 7623661
Abstract: Information is incorporated into motion picture film prints in the form of images or patterns that appear as unobtrusive defects or artifacts. The unique codes are used in association with the print number of the film and are reproduced in video copies of the film made by counterfeiters. This code can be read from the counterfeit copy and can be used to trace the source of the counterfeit. The digits of the print number are recorded in separate frames to increase the difficulty to counterfeiters in detecting and deleting them.

  • Patent number: 7394519
Abstract: A system and method is provided for encoding an identifiable code into the audio content of a motion picture. The audio content is altered in at least one specific pre-selected location in the audio soundtrack of the motion picture so as to be essentially unnoticeable to the listener. The audio content is altered to form an audio code which represents a unique number applied to that copy of the motion picture, whereupon any audio recording of such audio content would capture the audio code. The unique number is stored together with an identification of the location, entity or person who receives the copy when it is distributed, so as to enable suspected counterfeit copies of the motion picture to be analyzed to read the code number and identify the recipient of the copy and thereby track down the source of the counterfeit copies.

  • Patent number: 5999248
Abstract: An elongated record medium, such as motion picture film, is stored and transported in a plurality of banks of successive loop-forming rollers, with smaller banks of rollers being nested within the loops formed by a bank of larger rollers, and the record medium is transferred between the banks of rollers. The invention provides a relatively high capacity storage system which is very compact. It is used, for example, in storing film for feeding through a negative motion picture film printer, and for storing negatives in release print film production, and in accumulators for use in a variety of handling uses.

  • Patent number: 4215827
Abstract: An apparatus is described herein which when used in conjunction with a continuous film duplicator or printer, stores and transports micrographic, motion picture, and other masters during the printing cycle to eliminate rewinding when making multiple duplicate copies. The apparatus is modular utilizing a pair of carriages so that it may be expanded either horizontally or vertically to accommodate more footage. A single motor is employed to adjust the spacing between top and bottom roller sets disposed on the carriages for various lengths of film while a three-position sensor arm controls the motor. A slack sensor controls the speed of rollers mounted on shafts on the carriages and a motor drives each shaft controlled by the sensor. Low-mass plastic film rollers equipped with soft-touch rubber surfaces are employed for transporting the film and low inertia PM motors provide high acceleration and torque for driving the shafts.
