    Abstract: The various technologies presented herein relate to utilizing visible light in conjunction with a thinned structure to enable characterization of operation of one or more features included in an integrated circuit (IC). Short wavelength illumination (e.g., visible light) is applied to thinned samples (e.g., ultra-thinned samples) to achieve a spatial resolution for laser voltage probing (LVP) analysis to be performed on smaller technology node silicon-on-insulator (SOI) and bulk devices. Thinning of a semiconductor material included in the IC (e.g., backside material) can be controlled such that the thinned semiconductor material has sufficient thickness to enable operation of one or more features comprising the IC during LVP investigation.

    Abstract: An earth drain comprising a core consisting of an elongated flexible web having on at least one surface thereof, and preferably on both surfaces, an array of discreet projections spaced transversely across the width of the web, and longitudinally in the lengthwise orientation of the web. The array of projections is interrupted by a plurality of elongated projection-free zones extending in the longitudinal direction of the web, and spaced transversely across the width of the web. A filter of sheet-like water permeable material encases the core, and is adapted to be maintained in spaced relationship to the web by the free ends of the projections thereon.

    Abstract: A member of a vehicle steering gear moves longitudinally to effect steering movement of steerable wheels of a vehicle. A bearing is fixed in a housing and supports the member for the longitudinal movement. The bearing includes an electric coil for, when energized, generating lines of magnetic flux. A brass sleeve is fixed to the member and moves in opposite axial directions from a neutral position to change the reluctance of the path for the lines of magnetic flux and to provide a different reluctance at different positions of the brass sleeve relative to the bearing. The reluctance of the path decreases when the brass sleeve moves in one axial direction from the neutral position and increases when the brass sleeve moves in the other axial direction from the neutral position. A signal associated with the reluctance of the magnetic path is sensed to thereby provide a signal indicative of the position of the member.
