Abstract: Apparatus and methods for handling spent catalyst, wherein a slurry comprising the catalyst may be rapidly and conveniently drained to separate a liquid from the catalyst using a separation unit including a separation vessel and having a separator plate disposed between an upper compartment and a lower compartment of the separation vessel, whereby each of the liquid and solid components of the slurry may be conveniently contained separately for subsequent treatment, transportation, and/or disposal.
