  • Publication number: 20070088626
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for determining an optimal database refresh rate is provided. The method includes simulating a shopping system that includes a plurality of databases, the simulating including updating the plurality of databases in accordance with a database refresh rate. The method also includes repeating the simulating for each of a number of database refresh rates and calculating error rates for availability of product determinations resulting from each of the simulations. The method further includes estimating customer satisfaction levels for the error rates and comparing the customer satisfaction levels to corresponding costs of implementing database refreshes corresponding to each of the database refresh rates.

  • Publication number: 20070083442
Abstract: Methods, systems and program products for providing automated and consistent sales offerings availability messages, whereby a user type is identified, a catalog appropriate for such user type is provided and then a quantity of a sales offering is selected from the catalog. Availability data feeds are provided that may include real-time availability data feeds, batch availability data feeds, and combinations thereof. The user type and availability data feeds are then used to generate a sales offering availability message for the selected quantity of sales offering. The generated sales offering availability message is then transmitted to a commerce component for viewing, whereby the sales offering availability message may be viewed by and customized to user types including customers, business partners, distributors, internal sales and administrative support staff.

  • Publication number: 20070061185
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for implementing availability messaging services is provided. The method includes associating a user with an audience type with respect to an entity. The entity provides at least one product or service. The method also includes defining and applying at least one domain to each audience type operable for differentiating among audience types. In response to receiving a request for availability information regarding the product or service, the method includes determining a corresponding schedule date for the product or service. The method further includes converting the schedule date to a lead time to ship date and/or lead time to arrival date, and generating an availability message based upon the audience type of the user. The availability message includes the lead time to ship date and/or the lead time to arrival date.

  • Publication number: 20050058548
Abstract: According to various aspects of embodiments of the invention, the actual flow rate produced by a metering pump is continuously measured using a positive displacement flow meter. Based on the flow rate reported by the meter, the output of the metering pump is continuously adjusted via a pump controller to achieve a desired set point flow rate. The operator sets a desired flow rate, rather than setting the pump cycle rate, or the output rating per pump cycle to produce an approximate output flow rate.

  • Publication number: 20020020020
Abstract: Pillows for use by patients to help ease the pain in the thoracic, abdominal, pelvic, and flank areas originating from a variety of causes including for example, surgical incisions and stitches; internal and external injuries or bruises, such as bruised or fractured ribs; and natural body aches, such as menstrual cramps. The pillow is preferably made from resilient closed cell foam and has a handle to assist in placement of the pillow over a region of pain. The pillows can be washed and reused. Disposable or washable covers and heating or cooling packs can be used in conjunction with the pillows of the invention.

  • Patent number: 6195200
Abstract: In accordance with the invention, a multiwavelength light source comprises a length of optical waveguide amplifier, a multiwavelength reflector for reflecting a plurality of different spectrally separated wavelengths optically coupled to one side of the amplifier and a low reflection output coupled to the other side. A broadband source is provided for passing broadband light to the multiwavelength reflector. In the preferred embodiment, the reflector is a plurality of reflective Bragg gratings, the waveguide amplifier is a length of rare-earth doped fiber (e.g. EDF) and the broadband source is the amplifier pumped to generate ASE. In operation, broadband light is transmitted to the gratings. Light of wavelength channels corresponding to the reflection wavelengths of the gratings is reflected back through the amplifier for further amplification before it arrives at the output.

  • Patent number: 4674524
Abstract: A folding umbrella in which articulatingly connected inner and outer rib members are supported by a single slidably disposed strut providing a large diameter in use, and a substantially reduced size when closed. The paired rib members are covered on their exterior by a fabric and are foldable against the rod so as to be all parallel to the rod.

  • Patent number: 4638827
Abstract: A folding umbrella, particularly useful as a beach umbrella, in which circumferentially spaced outer ribs are slidably disposed on cooperating struts as the undersupport of the fabric cover, and in one extreme position of the slides, the umbrella opens to a radius of approximately 42 inches, and in an opposite slide position, the umbrella closes to a radius of approximately 32 inches, the 10 inch difference being the result of slide movement of the end of the rib along a strut which produces an internal fold in a central location of the fabric cover and thus diminishes its size accordingly.
