  • Patent number: 6264776
Abstract: A method for forming an absorbent structure is provided wherein absorbent members are adjacently disposed and orientated such as to have a specifically desired ratio of horizontal width to vertical height.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 15, 1999
Date of Patent: July 24, 2001
    Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.
    Inventor: Joseph DiPalma
  • Patent number: 5649916
Abstract: An absorbent article having a cover, a baffle and an absorbent core is disclosed. The absorbent core is constructed of at least three absorbent members vertically arranged with each absorbent member having an increasing wicking capacity along an x and y-axes, relative to the preceding absorbent member. The improved absorbent core exhibits a crush resistance of greater than about 250 grams and having a caliper of less than about 5 mm.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 1996
Date of Patent: July 22, 1997
    Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.
Inventors: Joseph DiPalma, Timothy Scot Stilp, R. John Birtwell
  • Patent number: 5624423
Abstract: An absorbent article with an outer perimeter is disclosed having a cover, a baffle, an absorbent core and a barrier means for intercepting fluid migrating from the absorbent core toward the outer perimeter of the sanitary napkin. The absorbent core has a protuberance that extends above a plane that is parallel to the absorbent core periphery. The barrier can encircle the protuberance so that in use the barrier effectively forms a gasket between the wearer's body, such as the crotch and/or thighs and the absorbent article.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 30, 1994
Date of Patent: April 29, 1997
    Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Corporation
Inventors: Sowmya S. Anjur, Joseph DiPalma
  • Patent number: 5613961
Abstract: An absorbent article is provided having a liquid-permeable cover, a liquid-impermeable baffle, an absorbent therebetween, and a resilient member positioned along at least one longitudinal side of the absorbent article. The absorbent article further includes a tensioning means which imparts an arcuate shape to the absorbent article. The tensioning device can be positioned along a portion of the upper most surface of the resilient member.

Date of Patent: March 25, 1997
    Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Corporation
Inventors: Joseph DiPalma, Sowmya S. Anjur
  • Patent number: 5609588
Abstract: An absorbent article, such as a sanitary napkin, has an absorbent and a substantially non-absorbent resilient layer adjacent to the absorbent. The absorbent is sufficiently stiff to resist twisting of the absorbent article during use. The resilient layer is sufficiently resilient to resist bunching during use. As a result, the absorbent article resists both twisting and bunching. The absorbent article has zones which vary in caliper, stiffness and absorbency. A central absorbent zone is thickest in caliper, more absorbent than the other zones and is stiffer than the other zones. An adjacent zone is less thick in caliper, less absorbent and less stiff. A peripheral zone, located near the outer side edges, is least thick in caliper, least absorbent and least stiff.

  • Patent number: 5545156
Abstract: An absorbent article with an outer perimeter is disclosed having a cover, a liquid-impermeable preformed member and an absorbent core positioned therebetween. The preformed member has bulge for close body contact between the wearer and the absorbent article and a barrier means for intercepting body fluid migrating from the absorbent core toward the outer perimeter of the sanitary napkin. The bulge extends above the bodyfacing surface of the absorbent core while the barrier means encircles the absorbent core and extends above the periphery of the absorbent core.

  • Patent number: 4070083
Abstract: There is disclosed herein an electrical extension cable unit in which the portion of the flexible cable extending from the plug is surrounded by strain-relieving means comprising a contractible sleeve of stiff interlaced wires, the ends of which are clamped to the plug, said wires being sufficiently stiff to resist sharp bending of the cable adjacent its connection to the plug. In the event of the socket for the plug being connected to a flexible power-carrying cable, the latter is also surrounded by a like strain-relieving, sharp bending resistant sleeve secured to the receptacle for the plug.
