  • Solid state curing of poly(arylene sulfide) resins in reduced oxygen atmospheres

    Abstract: Virgin poly(arylene sulfide) resins are oxidatively cured by heat treatment at an elevated temperature below the melting point of the resin, under an oxidizing atmosphere comprising less than a 20 volume % oxygen concentration. The resulting polymer exhibits drastically improved thermal stability with no apparent sacrifice in physical properties.

A system employing a V.sup.+3 /V.sup.+2 redox system is described which enables the amorphous silicon electrode to function as the cathode, reducing the rate of photo-oxidation during the operation of the photoelectrochemical cell to convert solar energy to electricity.
