  • Publication number: 20130001487
Abstract: Electrically-insulated utility devices and methods for using the same are described. In particular, this application discusses systems and methods for making and using electrically insulated pinch bars. Generally, each insulated pinch bar includes a pinch bar, which has a longitudinal body, a distal tip and a proximal head, and an electrically insulative material disposed circumferentially about a portion of the longitudinal body of the pinch bar. In some embodiments, the electrically insulative material also abuts the proximal head of the pinch bar. The insulated pinch bar can therefore provide safety for the pinch bar user or operator when the pinch bar is used in a variety of utility or construction applications and comes in contact with an electrical current. The insulated pinch bar can be part of a system which further includes a cover adapted to protect the electrically insulative material when the insulated pinch bar is not in use. Other embodiments are described.

  • Publication number: 20120305097
Abstract: Tapping devices and methods for using such devices to tap into a pipe are described. The tapping device contains a drill connected to the proximal portion of a shaft, a tapping tool attached to a distal portion of the shaft, and a protection device attached to the shaft. The protection device itself contains containing an enlarged distal portion, an enlarged proximal portion, and a middle member extending therebetween. The user can hold and use the tapping device with a first hand on a handle of the drill and a second hand on the middle member of the protection device. The protection device protects the hand from hitting an object (including the pipe), the socket, or the drill, thereby improving the safety for the user. Other embodiments are also described.

  • Publication number: 20120145764
Abstract: An installation device for installing a fastener into a solid object, such as a roadway, is described. The installation device can be made of a sleeve and a rod with a power hammer connector on a proximal portion of the rod. The sleeve can have an inner bore having an inner volume configured to receive a fastener. The rod can be selectively inserted within the inner bore of the sleeve. The distal end of the rod can have a substantially flat surface. The installation device enhances containment of the spike during installation, which can significantly reduce damage and injuries resulting from fly-away fasteners. Other embodiments are also described.

  • Patent number: 6508455
Abstract: A modular electronic throttle valve system for an internal combustion engine. A modular subassembly including at least a housing, motor, gear train and electronic sensors are mated with a two-piece air passageway subassembly. Bearings on the throttle shaft hold the throttle shaft in position in the clamshell member. A throttle shaft and throttle valve plate are either positioned in the modular subassembly with the housing, motor, gear train and electronic sensors, or included in the clamshell subassembly with a coupling member. The clamshell member and modular housing are secured together to form the completed electronic throttle control mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5828017
Abstract: An electrical switch apparatus suitable for isolating high voltage equipment and bus-bar systems in utility sub-stations. The switch apparatus comprises a pair of detachable couplers which are connected by a high voltage flex cable, and a pair of terminal adapters. The terminal adapters are connected to respective terminals of the bus-bar or other sub-station equipment. The terminal adapters each include a member for engaging one of the couplers and forming a conductive path between the terminals. To break the conductive path, one or both of the couplers are conveniently detached using a hook-stick. The switch apparatus is easily adapted to various spacings and provides a convenient replacement for conventional blade disconnect switches.
