    Abstract: A firebox for a wood stove provides primary, secondary, and tertiary supplies of combustion air to the firebox. The primary supply of air enters from the front of the firebox and establishes a combustion flow downwardly to the fire. Smoke containing particulates and gases then rises from the fire to a flue opening through the top of the firebox. The secondary supply of air is added to the flow of smoke as it rises to combust particulates and gases in the smoke. The tertiary supply of air is then added to the flow of smoke in surrounding relationship to the smoke flow as it passes through a restriction opening, further combusting the smoke. The primary, secondary, and tertiary supplies of air enter the firebox through primary, secondary, and tertiary inlet ports, the cross-sectional areas of the ports being in the ratio of 2 to 1 to 1 to regulate the flow of air inward. The secondary and tertiary air supplies are preheated before being added to the combustion flow.

    Abstract: A jacketed wood stove has a jacket forming an air space conformably surrounding the top, bottom, rear and sidewalls of the firebox, and a double-jacketed front access door. The periphery of the access door is slotted for internal convective cooling of the door. Ambient air enters the air space beneath the firebox, flows rearwardly, then upwardly behind the firebox and forwardly along the top and sidewalls of the firebox to progressively heat the air and to cool the outer jacket. A reflective intermediate baffle between the jacket and the side and rear walls of the firebox further cools the jacket. Heated air returns to the room via sidewardly-directed outlet slots along the upper and frontal margins of the jacket sidewalls. A pedestal supports the jacketed firebox above the floor. The pedestal contains a first conduit for introducing ambient air into the air space and second conduit for introducing outside combustion air into the firebox. The pedestal also houses a blower for blowing air into the air space.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method accomplishes the burning of biomass fuel materials with up to 80 percent efficiency. The inventive method and apparatus utilize a catalytic converter in communication with a combustion chamber to combust more completely combustion product gases to eliminate hydrocarbon pollutants and produce carbon dioxide gas. The catalytic converter is included within a passageway originating from and terminating in the combustion chamber so that the carbon dioxide gas is directed into the combustion chamber to control the rate of combustion therein. A heat exchanger in communication with the combustion chamber converts for use the heat carried by the carbon dioxide gas.
