Patent number: 8267438Abstract: A two-piece flange adapter including two identical flange parts. Each flange part has two ends, with each end having a planar mating surface disposed at each end of the channel disposed on an inner diameter surface of the flange part. A projection extends from one planar mating surface and is formed to continue the channel for a predetermined distance past the planar mating surface. The other end of the flange and channel define a groove having a depth that accepts the projection of a mating flange part to form a complete channel. A gasket having a cross-sectional area with an internal cavity is compressively disposed in a pocket defined by the channel and the mating pipes. The cross-sectional area of the gasket occupies less than 87% of the pocket and can also occupy approximately 82-84% of the pocket.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2007Date of Patent: September 18, 2012Assignee: Tyco Fire Products LPInventors: Joseph G. Radzik, Mark J. Estrella, Mark S. DeFilippo

Publication number: 20100102549Abstract: A pipe coupling and gasket, a pipe coupling system, and installation method for joining and sealing adjoining pipes having different outer diameters. The gasket including three flanges extending radially inward, with the middle flange acting as a fulcrum against the outer surface of the larger pipe to cause distension of the opening of the gasket receiving the smaller pipe, to permit easy entry of the smaller pipe into the gasket. The gasket is then slid over the larger pipe so that the middle flange slips over the edge of the larger pipe to relax the opening of the gasket receiving the smaller pipe. The middle flange can also form a sealing surface on the outer diameter surfaces of the larger pipe or on both the larger and smaller pipes. The middle flange can also form a sealing surface against the radially extending end surface of the larger pipe.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2007Publication date: April 29, 2010Inventor: Joseph G. Radzik

Patent number: 7625017Abstract: A coupling having two or more mating components with alignment of the mating components provided by mating projections and recesses. The components include extensions having bolt hole that align to form a bolt pathway when the components are properly aligned, and that do not align to form a bolt pathway through the extensions when the components are improperly aligned.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2007Date of Patent: December 1, 2009Assignee: Tyco Fire Products LPInventor: Joseph G. Publication number: 20080303269Abstract: One-piece, elastomeric gaskets for ferrous pipe couplings and the like are prelubricated with a coating of dry powder lubricant before installation. This coating can be applied before installation and as early as assembly by the manufacturer. The gaskets are combined with split ring collars to form couplings for pneumatic and hydraulic piping systems, including fire sprinkler systems, among others. The lubricant can be an organic starch powder derived from corn, rice, potatoes or other crops, talc or its primary ingredient, magnesium silicate hydroxide, or a combination of organic or organic and inorganic lubricant powders.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 11, 2008Publication date: December 11, 2008Applicant: CENTRAL SPRINKLER CORPORATIONInventor: JOSEPH G. RADZIK

Patent number: 6533333Abstract: Hinged mechanical couplings with interfitting ends include at least a pair of coupling segments each having: an elongated arcuate body with first and second opposing ends; a generally concave surface with central channel extending between the ends; a longitudinal central plane extending through the ends; a tongue and a recess located side-by-side on each end, the tongue being generally on an opposite side of the longitudinal central plane from the recess, each recess being slightly larger than the tongue to receive the tongue of the other coupling segment and form a tongue-recess interfit when the coupling segments are coupled together; a fastener pad protruding from the first end; and a pair of axially spaced-apart extensions protruding generally radially outwardly from the second end, one extension located on one side of the central longitudinal plane and immediately adjoining a space on an opposing side of the plane defined between the two extensions, the extensions being pivotally connected together to hiType: GrantFiled: October 26, 2000Date of Patent: March 18, 2003Assignee: Central Sprinkler CorporationInventor: Joseph G. Patent number: 6139069Abstract: Segmented pipe couplings are formed by two or more identical arcuate pipe coupling segments. Each end of each segment is matable to either end of each other segment. Each end has a tongue and a recess generally on opposite sides of a longitudinal central plane of the segment. The positioning of the tongue and recess is reversed with respect to the central plane at opposite ends of each segment. Each recess is slightly larger than the tongue to receive the tongue of an identical coupling. A double tongue-double recess interfit is formed when any coupling segment is coupled together with an identical coupling segment. Either end of any coupling segment can mate with either end of other coupling segment and form a proper connection between segments.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1998Date of Patent: October 31, 2000Assignee: Central Sprinkler CorporationInventor: Joseph G.
