Abstract: An iontophoretic device is taught which is positionable on skin of a recipient. An insulating member includes therethrough at least one reservoir containing a drug between outer and inner (recipientwise) electrodes adhered to surfaces of the insulating member. The inner electrode preferably is spaced from a rim of the drug reservoir by the same distance as the depth and width of the reservoir. The electrodes are connected to field generating means which draw the ionic drug into the patient and outward from the rim of the reservoir.

Abstract: A depilatory device includes a flexible plastic cylindrical member formed with a plurality of circumferentially-extending slits, the plastic member being rotated about its longitudinal axis while supported in an arcuate position such that the slits open and close during rotation of the plastic member to receive and pluck the hairs. The plastic member includes a high-strength flexible core imparting mechanical strength, and the slits are formed with corrugated or otherwise non-planar faces to enhance their gripping power when the slits are closed.

Abstract: An ultrasonic nebulizer includes a supply container for the liquid to be nebulized, and an electrolytic cell having electrodes for generating a gas according to the amount of electricity conducted through the electrodes. The generated gas is effective to control the pressure in, or volume of, the supply container, and thereby the feed of the liquid therefrom to the ultrasonic nebulizer nozzle.

Abstract: A depilatory device for removing body hair comprises a manually-grippable housing and a hair-plucker body supported in an arcuate position and rotated by a motor within the housing. The hair-plucker body is formed with gaps which open at the convex side and close at the concave side during the rotation of the body in order to catch, pluck and eject hair on the surface over which the body is moved. The hair-plucker body and the housing include quickly-attachable connectors which enable the hair-plucker body to be conveniently removed for cleaning or replacement, or for purposes of enabling each different user to have a personal hair-plucker body.

Abstract: The invention includes a cigarette like device which enables the user to experience the taste and aroma as well as the tactile sensations of smoking a tobacco cigarette--but without the presence of smoke, without any combustion, and without inhalation of harmful carcinogenic substances (e.g. tars) into the user's lungs. The device consists of a plastic mouthpiece containing a plug of chewing tobacco connected to a plastic tube with an axial duct, extending to a sealed end, where there is located a pumping member in the form of a flexible accordion-like, or bellows-type configuration or a spring-loaded ball or position. In a further embodiment, the device consists of a conventional mouthtip filter, or a tubular body with a flexible collapsible side wall sealed at the far end, and a tobacco insert.

Abstract: A depilatory device for removing body hair, comprises a manually-grippable housing, two hair-plucker bodies each rotatably mounted to the housing and each having an exposed section formed with a plurality of gaps in its outer surface which open and close during the rotation of the hair-plucker body to receive, pluck and eject body hair growing on a surface over which the hair-plucker body is moved, and a drive for driving the hair-plucker bodies in opposite directions.

Abstract: A massaging appliance for massaging the face or other part of the body, comprises a housing enclosing an electrical motor, and a cream applicator having a chamber for containing a supply of cream to be applied during massaging. The applicator has a cylindrical side wall closed at one end by a first end wall to be placed in contact with the respective part of the body to be massaged, and closed at its opposite end by a second end wall coupled to the motor to be driven thereby. The first end wall is formed with a plurality of openings each occupied by a ball rotatably mounted therein for dispensing cream to the contacted part of the body, and the second end wall is formed with a central threaded opening. A piston is disposed within the applicator and includes a threaded stem receivable in the threaded opening of the second end wall enabling the piston to be adjusted, to contract or enlarge the chamber, by rotating the applicator side wall with respect to its second end wall.

Abstract: A device for removing body hair comprises a manually-grippable housing, and a hair-plucker body rotatably mounted to the housing and having an exposed section formed with a plurality of gaps in its outer surface which open and close during the rotation of the hair-plucker body to receive, pluck and eject body hair growing on a surface over which the hair-plucker body is moved. The hair-plucker body includes a pair of drums mounted in spaced parallel relationship, and a belt enclosing the drums and engaging their outer surfaces so as to be rotated thereby. The belt is formed with a plurality of gaps extending circumferentially of the belt. One of the drums is configured so as to cause the portion of the belt engaging it to open its gaps, and the other drum is configured so as to cause the portion of the belt engaging it to close its gaps.

Abstract: A device for removing body hair comprises a manually-grippable housing, and a hair-plucker body including a stack of circular discs of uniform diameter fixed to a resilient cylindrical core of smaller diameter passing through their centers. The core is supported in an arcuate position and is rotated about its longitudinal axis such that the outer edges of the discs open at the convex side of the core during its rotation, to receive the hairs between the outer edges of the discs, and close at the concave side of the arcuate core during its rotation, to clamp the hairs between the outer edges of the discs and to pluck them from the body.

Abstract: A tool for loosening fasteners, comprises an applicator bar formed with a socket for receiving the fastener to be loosened, a handle fixed to a housing rotatable about the applicator bar for loosening the fastener received in the socket, a hammer within the housing and connected thereto by a spring, and an anvil carried by the applicator bar. The tool further includes a rod coupling the anvil to the hammer in the initial position of the hammer and effective to prevent relative movement therebetween, and thereby to load the spring during the rotation of the operating handle in one direction, and a releasing device effective, after the operating handle has been rotated a predetermined distance, to release the coupling rod, whereby the loaded spring causes the hammer to impact against the anvil to thereby loosen the fastener received in the socket of the applicator bar.

Abstract: Apparatus for rocking a baby holding device having four legs supporting same on the floor, comprises a roller for supporting each leg so as to be rollable over the floor, and a rocker device including a base adapted to be non-rotatably supported on the floor, a holder rollably supported on the base and adapted to receive its respective leg of the baby holding device, and an electrical motor for rocking the holder with respect to said base. The rocker device further includes a tape recorder for playing music or the like during the operation of the rocking device.

Abstract: A faucet includes a shut-off valve between its inlet connection and its spout, and a valve operator extending below the spout so as to be engageable by a user's hand when located below the spout to receive the water discharged therefrom. The valve operator comprises a stem passing through the spout and a latching device which latches the valve in the "on" position by one operation of the valve operator, and in the "off" position by the next operation.

Abstract: Haptens and antigen derivatives are coupled, through an azo bond, to proteins to form a conjugated material. The conjugate is injected into laboratory animals to raise antibodies which are useful in immunochemically assaying for the original haptens and antigen derivatives. Included among the immunochemical assay methods are radio-immune assays and fluorescence methods.

Abstract: A toy simulating a calculator having a visual display read-out by providing a housing having a display window with a continuous loop of strip material viewable therein, the strip having a plurality of stations with indicia thereon, the stations being preselectable by a child using the toy. A keyboard is provided, the keyboard having an actuating key and a plurality of indicating keys, each of the indicating keys having indicia thereon corresponding to a predetermined one of the stations. The mechanism includes a spring-biased disc having a plurality of projections thereon for coacting with a depressed indicating key, the mechanism being operated by a pull string which removes the stations from view, the strip then being moved under force of the spring upon sequential activation of an indicating key and the actuating key to permit the preselected one of the stations to appear at a predetermined location in a display window.

Abstract: Antigens capable of generating antibodies specific to morphine and other 3-oxybenzomorphan compounds are prepared by conjugating 3-oxybenzomorphan derivatives with immunogenic carriers employing a linking site on an aryl group of the 3-oxybenzomorphan other than the hydroxyl substituent, so as to produce antibodies specific for the material.

Abstract: A device for individually feeding a plurality of stacked flat articles such as cards and the like comprises drivable means for frictionally engaging and feeding the articles, means for retaining the articles in an upright stack with the bottom article resting partly on the drivable means and means partly supporting the stack at an angle to the horizontal thereby to relieve part of the weight of the stack from the drivable means.

Abstract: Antigenic phenethylamine conjugates are produced by blocking the amine of the phenethylamine hapten with a group, coupling of the phenethylamine to a carrier, and removal of the blocking group. Specific phenethylamines useful in this invention are amphetamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. The antigens thus produced can be used to raise antibodies in animal bodies, the antibodies being specific to the phenethylamine compound employed. The antibodies are useful in assaying for the phenethylamine hapten compounds.

Abstract: Antigens comprising 5,5'-alkylphenyl barbituric acid haptens and related 5,5'-phenylhydantoin haptens coupled to a carrier through an azo group connected meta or para on the phenyl ring are prepared by diazotization of the corresponding amine. Specific antibodies are raised in animals and used in radioimmuno assays for the corresponding hapten.

Abstract: Tyrosyl, thyronine, and histidyl compounds of the formulas: ##SPC1##Where R' is selected from the group consisting of --OH and --NHP.sub.p and R" is selected from the class consisting of --H and --COP.sub.p, where P.sub.p is a polypeptide chain having from 1 to 250 peptide groups, with or without pendant groups, X is selected from the class consisting of H and I; when X is I, X' is selected from the group consisting of H and I; and n is 0 or 1, where X' is H when n is 0; are conjugated to a carrier by first forming a primary aromatic amine on the carrier, diazotizing the amine, and coupling the tyrosyl, histidyl, or thyronine through the diazo group to form a novel antigenic conjugate. This novel antigenic conjugate can be injected into an animal for production of specific antibodies which are useful in assaying for the target, particularly by radioassaying.
