Patent number: 9710508Abstract: In general, in one aspect the invention relates to a method and system for managing data. The method and system involves identifying for a first user at least one record of a plurality of records, generating a user interface which displays a data field associated with the at least one record in a grid format, receiving from a second user, subsequent to generating the first user interface, a first desired modification of the data field, receiving from the first user a second desired modification of the data field, triggering a conflict resolution process, wherein the conflict resolution process involves choosing a chosen modification from the first desired modification and the second desired modification, and saving the chosen modification in the data field.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2006Date of Patent: July 18, 2017Assignee: QuickBase, Inc.Inventor: Joseph H. Patent number: 7165219Abstract: Method and apparatus for selecting samples for presentation on an output device, such as a display or speaker, from a sequence of stored media samples, such as audio or video information. Position information is received from a pointing device, such as a mouse, and translated into direction and magnitude information. A second sample is then retrieved based on this position and magnitude information. This method may be used to implement jog or shuttle controls for a media composer, which may be provided with simulated “inertia” for ease of use.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2000Date of Patent: January 16, 2007Assignee: Avid Technology, Inc.Inventors: Eric C. Peters, Joseph H. Rice

Patent number: 6489969Abstract: Media composer for editing source material. The media composer includes apparatus for receiving digitizing, storing and editing video and audio source material. Computing apparatus manipulates the stored source material and output apparatus communicates with the computing apparatus to display the manipulated material and control information. The computing apparatus includes JPEG compression techniques and is programmed to provide enhanced editing features.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 2000Date of Patent: December 3, 2002Assignee: Avid Technology, Inc.Inventors: Paul D. Garmon, Robert A. Gonsalves, Patrick D. O'Connor, Stephen J. Reber, Eric C. Peters, Joseph H. Rice, Curt A. Rawley

Patent number: 6317515Abstract: An encoding/decoding method and apparatus encodes an input data stream for compression purposes, and decodes the compressed data stream for use. The encoding process identifies trends in the data stream, and stores information about the trends in an encoded block. The trends may include runs, in which sequential, corresponding gropus in the data stream have constant values. The trends may also include ramps, where sequential, corresponging components in the data stream increase or decrease by a linear value. An encoded block may also be provided to transfer raw data. The encoded blocks do not store type information describing the type of the component associated with the block. Rather, the decoder infers the type of the components associated with the encoded block according to an original order of components in the data stream, the order of the encoded block in the sequence of encoded blocks and a number of the corresponding components encoded by each of the preceding encoded blocks.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1998Date of Patent: November 13, 2001Assignee: Avid Technology, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey D. Kurtze, Joseph H. Rice, Robert Gonsalves, Chia-Sheng Chou

Patent number: 6198477Abstract: An architecture for performing real-time image processing on multiple image data streams using compressed or uncompressed image data includes a switch for forwarding data from multiple input sources to multiple destinations on a video processing device. The video processing device includes two independent processing pipelines for processing two different data streams. The switch may couple one or both input data stream to be multiple different destinations. Multiple video processing devices may be coupled via the switch to increase the number of data streams capable of being processed at any given time. Mixers are coupled in a cascaded fashion using the switch, thereby providing selective keying capability and allowing for multiple keying events to be entered during one phase of processing. Each of the processing pipelines on the video processing device includes dedicated processing logic, compression logic and frame buffer storage. Logic is provided with each frame buffer to support motion effects.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1998Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Assignee: Avid Technology, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey D. Kurtze, Joseph H. Patent number: 5726717Abstract: Method and apparatus for editing transitions between sequences of video frames, generally including simultaneously displaying the frames in the first and second sequences that are at the beginning of the transition, and the frames in the first and second sequences that are at the end of the transition. The position of two of the four frames may be altered in their respective sequence to redefine the transition in response to a move command. Move commands may include center positioning commands, beginning commands, and end commands. The rate of change within the transition may also correspond to a predefined film characteristic.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1995Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Assignee: Avid Technology, Inc.Inventors: Eric C. Peters, Joseph H. Rice
