Abstract: A method of delivering a substance to a target location of a subject using an insertion apparatus having a base structure with at least one lumen extending along a length thereof, a cladding layer circumferentially surrounding the base structure and an optically-transmissive coating circumferentially surrounding an exterior of the base layer or an exterior of the cladding layer. The method includes inserting the insertion apparatus into the subject to access the target location, transmitting to tissue adjacent the insertion apparatus, a first optical radiation using the optically-transmissive coating or the cladding layer, receiving, from the tissue, at a processor, data characterizing a second optical radiation via the other of the optically-transmissive coating or the cladding layer based on the first optical radiation and determining whether a tip of the base structure is at the target location, and, if so, releasing a substance into or near the target location.

Abstract: A liquid discharge head includes a discharge port through which a liquid is discharged, an element for discharging the liquid from the discharge port, a channel through which the liquid is supplied to the discharge port, and a film member that is provided so as to be in contact with the liquid in a liquid chamber in the channel. The film member has a corrugated structure in which a plurality of loop-shaped projecting portions and a plurality of loop-shaped recessed portions are alternately formed. When seen in a direction perpendicular to a plane of the film member, the corrugated structure has a loop shape having a linear portion.

Abstract: Some embodiments of a smokeless tobacco system include one or more preformed smokeless tobacco products configured to generally retain their shape during processing, shipping, and consumer handling. In particular embodiments, each smokeless tobacco product can comprise a moist smokeless tobacco in combination with a selected binder such that the final product is configured to have material properties providing improved handling, an improved mouth feel, and a satisfying flavor profile.

Abstract: A modified bitumen consisting of a polyurethane wherein the polyisocyanate or polyisocyanate-dominated polyurethane prepolymer (or prepolymers) is first reacted with the bitumen to take advantage of the bitumen's hydroxyl and amine functionality and form an isocyanate-bitumen adduct to form a weatherproofing product.

Abstract: Method for determining the concentrations of constituent chemical species in a mixture, including the steps of: using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, acquiring an NMR measurement for a sample of the mixture; and for each of the constituent chemical species, retrieving a reference model representative of the NMR FID signal or frequency domain spectra from a database. Each model has a number of parameters, and for at least one of the constituent chemical species, the reference model is a quantum mechanical model. The method further includes, using a computer, generating a model signal for the mixture and adjusting some or all of the model parameters to fit the model signal to the measured data; and based on the fitted model signal, calculating and displaying the concentrations of the constituent species in the sample.

Abstract: A building ventilator to provide a supply of air into a building comprises an external inlet port and a separate external outlet port and an internal inlet port and a separate internal outlet port to allow respective airstreams to flow into and out of the ventilator respectively at an exterior and at an interior of the building; a heat exchanger mounted in the flow paths between the external and internal inlet and outlet ports. The ventilator is configured to drive an airflow from the external inlet port through the heat exchanger and out of the ventilator via the internal outlet port; and to drive an airflow from the internal inlet port through the heat exchanger and out of the ventilator via the external outlet port. The ventilator comprises a heating element mounted in the air flow path between the external inlet port and the heat exchanger.

The output of the likelihood function are values that are parameters that are employed to ascertain connectivity of trabeculae in the bone of the patient and volumetric trabecular density of the bone.
