Patent number: 9697839Abstract: Methods and apparatus for audio watermarking are disclosed. Example methods disclosed herein include obtaining a watermarked noise signal having energy in a first frequency band, the watermarked noise signal being associated with a first operating state of a device. Disclosed example methods also include adjusting the watermarked noise signal based on an ambient audio level sensed by an audio sensor. Disclosed example methods further include emitting the adjusted watermarked noise signal via a speaker in response to determining that the device is in the first operating state.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 2015Date of Patent: July 4, 2017Assignee: The Nielsen Company (US), LLCInventors: Francis Gavin McMillan, Istvan Stephen Joseph Kilian

Patent number: 9117442Abstract: Methods and apparatus for audio watermarking a substantially silent media content presentation are disclosed. An example method to audio watermark a media content presentation disclosed herein comprises obtaining a watermarked noise signal comprising a watermark and a noise signal having energy substantially concentrated in an audible frequency band, the watermarked noise signal attenuated to be substantially inaudible without combining with a separate audio signal, associating the watermarked noise signal with a substantially silent content component of the media content presentation, the media content presentation comprising one or more media content components, and outputting the watermarked noise signal during presentation of the substantially silent content component.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2012Date of Patent: August 25, 2015Assignee: The Nielsen Company (US), LLCInventors: Francis Gavin McMillan, Istvan Stephen Joseph Kilian

Patent number: 7019674Abstract: A content-based information retrieval architecture is herein disclosed that can achieve correct and predictable high speed lookups while taking advantage of inexpensive conventional memory components. A content-based information retrieval architecture is herein disclosed that can achieve high speed lookups with a constant query time while taking advantage of inexpensive conventional memory components. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, the architecture comprise a hashing module, a first table of encoded values, a second table of lookup values, and a third table of associated input values. The input value is hashed a number of times to generate a plurality of hashed values, the hashed values corresponding to locations of encoded values in the first table. The encoded values obtained from an input value encode an output value such that the output value cannot be recovered from any single encoded value.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2004Date of Patent: March 28, 2006Assignee: NEC Laboratories America, Inc.Inventors: Srihari Cadambi, Joseph Kilian, Pranav Ashar, Srimat T. Publication number: 20010056533Abstract: A computer platform is described that provides control features to allow for the protection of intellectual property rights and prevent malfunctioning of the platform. The platform uses 1) a secure operating system including a secure memory management system, 2) public key encryption, 3) data authentication through digital signatures and 4) application/data approval through a flexible access policy through the use of object handlers and an application program approval process. Through these four control features, the platform provides the ability to control access to data and minimize the effects of computer malfunctions.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2001Publication date: December 27, 2001Inventors: Peter Yianilos, Joseph Kilian

Patent number: 4926479Abstract: In a multiparty verification system, a prover and a verifier are coupled to rocess respective outputs to provide a system output such as an identification verification. The prover is formed of plural units which share confidential information used to encrypt information carried by the prover. Communication between the prover units is prevented. The first prover unit encrypts the information based on additional information received from the verifier and transfers the encrypted information to the verifier. Subsequently, the verifier obtains from the second prover unit the shared confidential information required to decrypt a subset of the transmitted encrypted information.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1988Date of Patent: May 15, 1990Assignees: Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yissum Research Development Company of the Hebrew University of JerusalemInventors: Shafi Goldwasser, Joseph Kilian, Avi Wigderson, Michael Ben-Or
