    Abstract: An apparatus for treating tissue of a mammalian body. In one embodiment, a spring mechanism is carried by first and second tubular members and actuatable for moving a needle from a first position disposed within the distal extremity of the first tubular member to a second position extending distally of the first tubular member. In another embodiment, a nozzle is coupled to the distal extremity of an elongate tubular member for delivering a material into tissue of the mammalian body. In a further embodiment, a flexible elongate member provided with a recess is introduced into a cavity of the body to capture tissue in the recess and electrical energy is applied to such tissue in the recess so as to change the compliance of the tissue.

    Abstract: An integrated catheter assembly comprises a bipolar electrode tool and a monopolar electrode tool. The catheter assembly enables an operator to perform both bipolar and monopolar procedures on tissue without having to withdraw the catheter assembly, without having to remove or replace any part of the catheter assembly, and/or without having to insert any additional tools or parts. The catheter assembly may comprise a switching mechanism such that when one of the bipolar electrode tool and monopolar electrode tool is electrically activated, the other of the bipolar electrode tool and monopolar electrode tool cannot be electrically activated. In one embodiment of a method, the operator uses a single catheter assembly for applying bipolar current for tissue electro-therapy and monopolar current for tissue cutting.

The method may include positioning a medical device adjacent a region of tissue having two tissue portions. The medical device may include a male member and a female member having a first bioabsorbable material overlying one of a non-bioabsorbable material and a second bioabsorbable material. The first bioabsorbable material may have a first degradation rate, and the second bioabsorbable material may have a second degradation rate slower than the first degradation rate. The method may also include inserting the male member inside the female member so as to inhibit withdrawal of the male member from the female member with the two tissue portions between the male member and the female member.
