  • Patent number: 5403390
Abstract: An antifoulant patent includes the ingredient of cuprous sulfide or cupric sulfide, both of which offer a hostile surface to chelating algae while retaining a repelling effect on barnacles and mollusks. In one embodiment, the composition comprises from 40 to 75 percent by weight of cuprous sulfide; from 10 to 50 percent by weight of an epoxy resin; from 5 to 25 percent by weight of curing agents; and from 1 to 15 percent by weight of glass fibers. The antifoulant coating results in a colorfast surface and the preferred embodiment has been devised to have a stable black color.

  • Patent number: 4610719
Abstract: An apparatus and a method destined for the production of metal powder, wherein inert gas, especially argon is admixed to a metal melt rising in a riser, thereby forming a metal froth which is pressurized likewise by inert gas, especially argon of high pressure in a pulverization chamber, at the same time, forming metal droplets. These are displaced from the pulverization chamber by the gas blown into the same, to enter an expansion chamber in the form of a collecting vessel, the metal droplets being accelerated in the passage from the pulverization chamber to the collecting vessel, at the same time, forming the finest metal powder.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 24, 1985
Date of Patent: September 9, 1986
    Assignee: Nyby Uddeholm Powder AB
    Inventor: Joseph M. Wentzell
  • Patent number: 4588019
Abstract: A method of nucleating highly alloyed metals is provided in which the metal alloy is melted, a metal alloy powder is added to the molten metal under conditions such that the powder enters the metal substantially free of surface impurities and the metal is then cooled to solidification.

  • Patent number: 4431443
Abstract: A method is provided for substantially eliminating metal condensates on the walls of a vacuum arc melting vessel above a molten metal pool by the step of providing an atmosphere of non-condensible gas in the vessel above the molten metal pool during the melting operation.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4008023
Abstract: A compactible mold pack useful for forming articles of complex inner and outer contour and substantial uniform density directly from metal powder is disclosed. The mold pack includes first and second porous, compactible mold sections defining therebetween a cavity in the outer contour of the article to be made, a porous, compactible core suspended in the cavity to define the inner contour and metal powder disposed in the cavity between the mold sections and core, the mold sections and core having an initial porosity substantially equal to that of the metal powder to be consolidated. The mold pack may be compacted to size by conventional forging and pressing techniques to consolidate the metal powder therein into the desired article.

  • Patent number: 3982934
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for powder metal formation in which a plated shell is formed corresponding to the appropriate calculated pre press size of the final part being formed; the electroplate shell is filled with powder metal to be formed; the shell is surrounded by a pressure transferring support media and compacted using a suitable force transmitter such as an isostatic press; and the support media is removed leaving the final product within the electroplate shell which may or may not be removed as desired.
