  • Publication number: 20060279427
Abstract: Location detection systems are provided for determining the location of patient handling devices in a healthcare facility. In one embodiment, the location detection system comprises a locator fixed in each zone of each room in the facility. The locator includes at least one infrared transmitter for transmitting a unique location identifier to a receiver mounted on the patient handling device. A communication module transmits the unique location identifier from the patient handling device to a network utilized by the healthcare facility for the management of patient, personnel, and equipment information. A processing station located on the network processes the unique location identifier to ultimately determine the room and zone location of the patient handling device. The processing station may include a graphical user interface on a touch-screen display for reviewing and manipulating the location information.

  • Patent number: 4708096
Abstract: The cylinder head of each power cylinder of this internal combustion engine includes an auxiliary cylinder in communication with the power cylinder. An auxiliary piston is moveable within the auxiliary cylinder in synchronism with the power piston. During the compression stroke of the engine the auxiliary piston is retracted and the auxiliary cylinder becomes filled with the combustible mixture. This mixture is transferred back to the power cylinder as the power piston moves away from its upper dead center position. Thus the time during which the mixture is at maximum compression is increased and therefore the explosion takes place when the crank shaft has already rotated through an appreciable angle from the upper dead center position. Thus the torque exerted by the power piston is considerably increased with respect to the conventional engine. To further increase this torque the axis of the crank shaft is laterally offset from the center line of the power cylinder in a direction to increase said torque.

  • Patent number: 4658734
Abstract: A bogie for use with a railway wagon, comprising a rigid horizontal frame adapted to be vertically pivoted to the underside of the wagon by a central vertical pivot, also with the interposition of a large diameter ball bearing assembly, co-axial with the pivot and positively maintaining the frame parallel to the bottom of the wagon. Rail-engaging wheels are each supported below the frame by an independent suspension assembly. Each of the latter comprises a pair of lever arms extending on both sides of the associated wheel and pivoted at one end to the frame and rigidly interconnected at their opposite ends by a cross-member. The wheel is rotatably carried by the intermediate portions of the two arms. An elastic suspension member extends vertically between the frame and the cross-member. The main parts of the bogie are of welded box-like construction formed of metal plates. The wheels can be easily dismounted for repair or replacement.

  • Patent number: 4624355
Abstract: This hydraulic clutch is particularly adapted for heavy duty use and is characterized by its doing away with the need for a seal at the clutch shoes and for a rotary seal, at its connection with a supply pump, by provision of an elastic bag for containing the pressurized liquid acting against the clutch shoes and by rotation of the hydraulic liquid supply reservoir and pump with the input shaft of the clutch. The clutch can therefore operate at high hydraulic pressure.

  • Patent number: 4215556
Abstract: A device as utilized in conjunction with a finger ring for purposes of securement of the ring upon the finger of the wearer includes a size-reducing element configured for fitting within the opening of the ring for interposition between an inner peripheral surface of the opening and a palmer surface of the finger. A hinge arrangement is provided for securement to an outer peripheral surface of the ring, there being an arm engaging said element and the hinge structure. The arm is pivotally secured with respect to the hinge structure to provide pivoting movement of the size-reducing element between an open position, permitting unencumbered insertion of the finger within the opening, and a closed position, wherein the size-reducing element is located within the opening for substantially preventing the ring from being withdrawn from the finger. The device is equipped for resiliently retaining the size-reducing element in the closed position.
