  • Patent number: 7887420
Abstract: Disclosed are methods, apparatus, and systems, including computer program products, implementing and using techniques for a method for providing a game on demand over a data network, in a gaming machine. The gaming machine sends a request message for a game application over the data network. In a network mode, the gaming machine receives outputted results from an executed game application over a streaming channel of the data network for network-based game play. During the network-based game play, the game application is downloaded over a download channel of the data network. In a local mode, the gaming machine executes the downloaded game application independent of the network-based game play. The gaming machine switches instantaneously from the network mode to the local mode for machine-based game play, including maintaining a status of the network-based game play.

  • Patent number: 7758428
Abstract: An apparatus and method affords, to authorized persons, access to one or more lockable areas of one or more gaming machines. Each area includes a door or switch and an associated electrically operable lock mechanism which controls access to the area. Each machine has a local processor communicating with a central host computer and with lock processors for each of its lockable areas. Personnel identification and access authorization data is stored at the host computer. Data may also be stored on personal data cards, respectively assigned to individual persons. A person seeking access inputs identification data at the machine, and the host computer responds with signals to unlock lock mechanisms for areas which the identified person is authorized to access. Each machine monitors the states of all of its locks and doors. A manual override key, disabled when power is on, operates the lock mechanisms when power is off.

  • Publication number: 20100113146
Abstract: A gaming machine includes main and secondary displays. The secondary display is disposed apart from the primary display and is used for presenting primary, secondary, or even tertiary information. The main display is controlled electronically by a gaming machine controller, which main display presents the results of a play on the gaming machine. In the case of a slot machine, the main display may be the glass display through which the spinning reels of a game play are viewed. In a video poker gaming machine, the main display is usually a cathode ray tube (“CRT”) which displays a video game image to the player and other information directly associated with the game play. The secondary display may be provided at various locations on the gaming machine such as in a top glass portion of the gaming machine or a belly glass portion of the gaming machine, which belly glass portion is located below a main display portion of the gaming machine.

  • Publication number: 20080113747
Abstract: Described herein is a processor-based gaming machine with layered displays. The layered displays include a front screen and back screen that provide actual physical separation between visual representations on the front and back screens; the separation mimics the actual distance seen between a glass layer and mechanical reels in a traditional mechanical stepper gaming machine. This distance between video screens also provides parallax and increases the ability of a processor-based gaming machine to realistically emulate older mechanical reel gaming machines.

  • Publication number: 20080113745
Abstract: Described herein is a gaming machine with layered displays and separable graphics that leverage the layered displays to enhance game play on a gaming machine. The separable graphics include separate but related content on each of the display panels for a game. The layered displays include a proximate screen and distal video display device that provide actual physical separation between graphics items output by proximate and distal video display devices. This distance provides parallax, which improves three-dimensional perception of video graphics and games by the gaming machine.
