  • Patent number: 8056673
Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methodology for reducing noise and wear in a flapper configured exhaust tip for a marine exhaust system. A metallic flapper is located at an end portion of an exhaust tip of the exhaust pipe. An elastomeric flapper assembly is provided covering the exhaust tip and includes a lip portion configured to provide noise reduction by functioning as a stop for a tip portion of the metallic flapper. The metallic flapper is positioned such that a tip thereof contacts the elastomeric flapper assembly rather than the metallic exhaust pipe. Such contact with an elastomeric flapper assembly reduces noise previously produced by flapper contact with the hot exhaust pipe.

  • Patent number: 7913809
Abstract: Disclosed are apparatus and methodology for reducing noise and wear in a flapper configured exhaust tip for a marine exhaust system. A flapper, normally located within an exhaust tip of a marine exhaust system, is relocated upstream of the point in the exhaust system where cooling water normally contacts the exhaust pipe. An exhaust tip is coupled to the upstream portion of the exhaust system by way of an elastomeric coupling device. The flapper is positioned such that a tip thereof contacts the elastomeric coupling rather than the metallic exhaust pipe. Such contact with an elastomeric coupling device reduces noise previously produced by flapper contact with the hot exhaust pipe occasioned by destruction and/or heat degeneration of elastomeric material generally associated with the flapper device.

  • Patent number: 7827690
Abstract: A collector for liquid cooled exhaust includes a retention member, a coolant transfer plate and a collector housing. The retention member fits between at least two exhaust jacket pipes and is attached thereto. Holes are formed through the coolant transfer plate to receive the at least two exhaust jacket pipes and exhaust pipes. Such holes form respective sealing grooves therein, and respective sealing rings are received in such sealing grooves. The coolant transfer plate is secured to the retention member with welding or the like. At least one coolant opening is formed through each exhaust jacket pipe at substantially at end thereof, adjacent a coolant passage cavity in the coolant transfer plate. The collector housing is attached to the coolant transfer plate. Coolant flows between the exhaust pipes and exhaust jacket pipes; through the coolant transfer plate; and through the coolant housing.

  • Patent number: 7104359
Abstract: A muffler having a baffle with angled plates includes a one piece baffle, a container and two end caps. The one piece baffle has at least three different configurations. The baffle preferably has two, three or four plates, namely “V”, “Z” or “W” shapes. Each one piece baffle configuration includes openings to allow exhaust flow therethrough. Each one piece baffle configuration is retained in the container. The container is terminated with end caps on each end thereof. At least one inlet tube and at least one outlet tube are attached to a perimeter of the container. In a second embodiment, the container and baffle are formed from a single piece of material. In a third and fourth embodiment, the inlet and outlet tubes are inserted through plates of the baffle. In a fifth embodiment, balanced tubes and chambers are added. In a sixth embodiment, a corrugated baffle is used.

  • Patent number: 7013565
Abstract: A removable collector for liquid cooled exhaust includes a retention member, a coolant transfer plate and a collector housing. The retention member fits between at least two exhaust jacket pipes and is attached thereto. Holes are formed through the coolant transfer plate to receive the at least two exhaust jacket pipes and exhaust pipes. The coolant transfer plate is secured to the retention member with fasteners. At least one coolant opening is formed through each exhaust jacket pipe at substantially an end thereof, adjacent a coolant passage cavity in the coolant transfer plate. The collector housing is attached to the coolant transfer plate. Coolant flows between the exhaust pipes and exhaust jacket pipes; through the coolant transfer plate; and through the collector housing. The removable collector for liquid cooled exhaust may be removed from the exhaust pipes by removing the fasteners. The exhaust pipes may be retained in a line.
