Abstract: This invention relates generally to a tubular medical device, and more particularly to a tubular medical device for fluid feeding to or fluid drainage from a body cavity. The invention describes both a device and a method of making a device that comprises an elongated flexible primary tube forming a lumen having an open end, a secondary tube concentrically surrounding and spaced from the primary tube and extending between the open end and a position spaced from the open end. The primary and secondary tubes have an integral joining portion at the open end. The primary and secondary tubes form a chamber that is sealably closed and filled with a heavy metal so that a weighted tip element, or bolus is formed. Alternatively, the chamber may be pressurized and expanded to form a balloon element by way of a side tube affixed to the primary tube and connected at one end to a source of pressurized air and at the other end to a position within the chamber.

Abstract: A surgical stapler for suturing tissue that includes a flat driver slidably mounted in a stapler frame in operative association with a substantially flat anvil rotatably mounted in the frame. The anvil includes a projection, or flange, that is located near the nose of the stapler frame. The driver has a staple-forming recess at the nose area. The anvil is rotated by activation of the driver via a trigger mounted in the frame means. When the anvil is rotated from a non-engaged position to an engaged position by action of the driver, the projection of the anvil drops on the inner side of a staple in the recess. Further outward movement of the driver crimps the staple in the recess between the projection and the driver. De-engagement of the driver from the staple results in forcing the anvil to rotate from the engaged position to the non-engaged position so as to free the crimped staple from its position in the recess.

Abstract: A hemostatic clip device capable of being mounted to a surgical applicator and applied to a blood vessel so as to prevent blood flow. The clip device includes a pair of semi-rigid legs having free ends and opposed ends connected to a bridge. The legs are movable from an open mode in the applicator to a closed mode pinching the blood vessel. A plurality of first grooves are formed in parallel on one of the legs in a slanted direction relative to longitudinal dimension of the legs. A plurality of second grooves are formed in parallel on the other leg in a slanted direction relative the dimension of the legs approximately perpendicular to the second grooves so that the crimped vein remains stationary. A locking tab formed at the end of one of the legs is adapted to slide into a recess at the inner side of the opposed leg to prevent cross movement of the legs.

Abstract: A system for selecting a message of a multi-message record for a toy phonograph. A vertical column is movably disposed around a center shaft in a housing. The column carries a turntable with the record at its top end and includes a base portion that has a ringed pressing surface and a cam at the bottom rim. Radial extending arms are positioned in the bottom wall of the housing equal in number to the number of messages on the record; each arm has an upward projection at its inner end that is higher in elevation than the cam of the column in the lower position of the column. The record is slotted to the column so that each message position can be ascertained. Selecting devices including vertical push-buttons aligned with the starting points for the record messages are rotatably positioned around the base portion of the column.

In addition, the stapler is provided with means for restoring the driver to its unactivated position, and means are provided for preventing the double loading of the staples in said surgical stapler. The skin stapler is lightweight and of the disposable type as it is generally small and relatively compact.

A pair of jaws surround the front of the slide top and bottom and are connected to it so as to open when the handles are released and close when the handles are squeezed. The forward ends of the jaws carry anvils which, when closed, squeeze ligating clips shut which are supplied from a magazine.

Abstract: An instrument for applying clips to a surgical site has an applicator with two jaws which are movable between open and closed positions. A mechanism is provided for feeding the respectively leading clip of a string of such clips between the jaws, whereupon the jaws are closed and the leading clip is cinched as it is being applied to the surgical site. To vary the presentation of the clip, i.e., its orientation relative to the surgical site, the mechanism is mounted so that it can turn about a longitudinal axis of the instrument. In one embodiment, a slide button is provided which can be slid forward and backward with one finger of a user, such translatory movement of the button being converted into a turning movement of the mechanism and consequently also of the clip which is being held between the anvils preparatory to its application to the surgical site. In another embodiment, turning movement is effected by rotating a knob secured to the mechanism.

The free ends carry arms which are so hinged to them that they pivot during movement of the sections towards each other and when barbs provided on these arms are inserted into the skin at opposite sides of a wound.
