Publication number: 20150177461Abstract: An explosion proof optical fiber splicer system includes a gasket sealed arc chamber fed with purging inert gas to exclude ambient air which may be contaminated with explosive hazardous gases or particles. Prepared bare fiber ends are placed within the chamber on a pedestal held by fiber clamps. An arc between electrodes perpendicular to the fiber line is made possible only when adequate inert gas is present as controlled by a control monitor. The control monitor receives information from sensors within the arc chamber regarding oxygen content, inert gas pressure, and flow volume. The explosion proof optical fiber splicer system is compact and can be used in contained narrow spaces without need for disassembly of optical connections.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2013Publication date: June 25, 2015Inventors: Simon P. Bush, Nellie L. Cabato, Joseph W. Jackson, JR., Ian C. McDermott, Laurence N. Wesson

Patent number: 8016329Abstract: A latch is disclosed that can releasably secure a door or panel in a closed position. The latch includes a rotary pawl, a pawl catch, an actuating member, a pivotally movable handle, and a gear train for moving the pawl to provide compression in response to the movement of the handle to the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2007Date of Patent: September 13, 2011Assignee: Southco, Inc.Inventors: Henrik Olov Johansson, Stephen M. Kozachyn, Joseph W. Jackson, Daniel James Kelly, III, Fall Lars Erik Johan Ohlsson, Daniel Andersson

Patent number: 7695031Abstract: A latch has a pop-up knob that provides a handle for pulling on a door when the knob is extended. The door can be closed with the knob either up or down. With the knob up, the latch pawl can be disengaged from a keeper attached to the door frame by pulling the door open. With the knob down, the latch pawl remains in an extended position behind the keeper and the door cannot be pulled open. The knob can be selectively retained in the down position, and placing the knob in the down position results in the rotational movement of the latch pawl being blocked.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2005Date of Patent: April 13, 2010Assignee: Southco, Inc.Inventors: Joseph W. Jackson, Jr., Claes Gunnar Wilhelm Magnusson
