  • Patent number: 5444606
Abstract: A combination of a prismatic reflector and a prismatic lens is provided for use with lighting fixtures. A reflector body has a substantially parabolic contour defining an interior cavity. The reflector body includes a plurality of prisms for receiving, transmitting and reflecting light. A lens body has a first mating surface engaging the reflector body, an opposed inverted conical surface, and a sloping sidewall extending between the mating surface and the opposed inverted conical surface. The mating surface of the lens body has a larger diameter than the opposed inverted conical surface. The opposed inverted conical surface includes a plurality of prisms for receiving and for redirecting light.

  • Patent number: 5143446
Abstract: An improved lighting fixture includes a light reflecting and/or light transmitting member for reflecting or transmitting visible light. A light transmitting film is disposed adjacent the light reflecting or transmitting member. The light transmitting film is formed of a glutarimide acrylic copolymer. The glutarimide acrylic copolymer film provides protection to the light reflecting and/or transmitting member from damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation and is substantially resistant to ultraviolet radiation.

  • Patent number: 5046818
Abstract: An optical system is provided for traffic signal devices. The optical system includes an illuminating source for emitting light; a prismatic reflector for receiving and reflecting the emitted light; and a lens for receiving and for redirecting the reflected emitted light. The illuminating source and the reflector are aligned along a first axis that is vertically inclined relative to a central horizontal axis of the traffic signal device in a range between approximately 2 degrees and 4 degrees. The reflector has a substantially parabolic contour and has a plurality of substantially vertical critical angle prisms formed on an outside surface of the reflector. The prism have included angles of greater than 90 degrees but less than or equal to 95 degrees, or included angles of greater than or equal to 85 degrees but less than 90 degrees.

  • Patent number: 4839781
Abstract: A reflector/refractor device is provided for use with a variety of lighting fixtures and light sources. The reflector/refractor device includes a body having a predetermined profile and defining a cavity with the body having an inside surface and an outside surface. An illuminating source for emitting light is disposed within the cavity substantially along a central vertical axis of the body. The body includes a series of sectional zones for reflecting and refracting light. The exterior surface of the device includes a plurality of substantially vertical prisms consisting of reflective elements, refractive elements and elements that may be either reflective or refractive depending on light center location. These reflective or refractive elements act in combination to selectively vary light distribution characteristics of vertical and lateral angles, and intensities, by vertical displacement of the illuminating lamp source.
