  • Patent number: 7829652
Abstract: A composition including a polyarylether copolymer is provided. The copolymer includes a polyarylether backbone; and a sulfonated oligomeric group bonded to the polyarylether suitable for use as a cation conducting membrane. Method of bonding a sulfonated oligomeric group to the polyarylether backbone to form a polyarylether copolymer. The membrane may be formed from the polyarylether copolymer composition. The chain length of the sulfonated oligomeric group may be controlled to affect or control the ion conductivity of the membrane.

  • Patent number: 7696371
Abstract: A method for preparing an aliphatic chloroformate comprising, introducing a mixture of at least one aliphatic hydroxyl compound, phosgene, at least one solvent, and optionally at least one organic base into a flow reactor to obtain a unidirectional flowing reaction mixture. The at least one aliphatic hydroxyl compound comprises at least one aliphatic hydroxyl group. The unidirectional flowing reaction mixture is maintained at a temperature between about 0° C. and about 60° C. to produce a single product stream comprising an aliphatic chloroformate.

  • Publication number: 20100077529
Abstract: An article includes a porous membrane having pores, a first selectively permeable coating supported by the membrane and a component protective against delamination of the selectively permeable coating from the porous membrane and/or any other coatings applied thereto. The first selectively permeable coating includes an antichemical, antibiological, antiradiological and/or antimicrobial agent. The protective component may be provided alone, or as an element of the first selectively permeable coating, or, a second selectively permeable coating. A laminate and methods of providing these are also provided.

  • Patent number: 7687557
Abstract: Polycarbonate compositions having an aromatic polycarbonate resin with 90% or greater fluoroalkylene carbonate end-groups are formed from a partially fluorinated alcohol or a partially fluorinated polymeric alcohol, and a bisphenol and a carbonate source using melt or interfacial polymerization methods. Copolymers and blends with a variety of other bisphenols and other thermoplastics are also described. The polycarbonate compositions show high water contact angles, fluorine enrichment on the surface layer of molded articles, and good flame retardant properties and are useful in a variety of applications including medical, automotive, telecommunication and weatherable applications.

  • Publication number: 20090117367
Abstract: An article includes a membrane having pores and a selectively permeable coating supported by the membrane. The selectively permeable coating includes a hydroxyalkyl-substituted polyalkyleneimine in an amount that is sufficient to chemically react with a chembio agent to reduce the biological activity of the chembio agent or increase an amount of time for a significant amount of unreacted biologically active chembio agent to pass through the article. An associated method is also provided.
