Patent number: 10705684Abstract: A system includes display equipment and a processor coupled to the display equipment. The processor is configured to cause the display equipment to display an electronic checklist associated with an aircraft. The processor is configured determine whether the electronic checklist includes a checklist item associated with a particular control page of a plurality of control pages. The processor is configured to, based on determining that the electronic checklist includes the checklist item associated with the particular control page, cause the display equipment to display the particular control page that includes a control element that is selectable to cause a control command to be sent to one or more components.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2017Date of Patent: July 7, 2020Assignee: THE BOEING COMPANYInventors: Vikram H. Patent number: 10638808Abstract: Example implementations relate to providing head and neck support. An example system includes a helmet, a load bearing harness, and a flexible extension coupled between the helmet and the load bearing harness. An activation of a magnetic field proximate the flexible extension causes a ferromagnetic infused medium to transition from a fluid state to a substantially rigid state causing the flexible extension to transition from a flexible state to a rigid state. When the flexible extension is in the rigid state, force applied to the helmet transfers through the flexible extension to the load bearing harness. The system further includes a sensor configured to detect an event. Particularly, the sensor causes the activation of the magnetic field proximate the flexible extension in response to detecting the event.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2018Date of Patent: May 5, 2020Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Donald F. Wilkins, Joshua Lee Downs, Ronald H. Berzins

Patent number: 10466865Abstract: A method includes displaying, on an electronic display, an electronic checklist. The method further includes determining whether the electronic checklist includes a checklist item associated with states of multiple components of a subsystem associated with the electronic checklist. The method further includes, based on determining that the electronic checklist includes the checklist item associated with the states of the multiple components, displaying, on the electronic display, a single option that is selectable to send control commands to the multiple components.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2016Date of Patent: November 5, 2019Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Joshua Lee Downs, Mark I. Nikolic, Paul T. Snow, Vikram H. Pandya, Alex J. Campise, David A. Green

Patent number: 10012667Abstract: Methods and systems for depicting a wind force exerted on an airborne vehicle are provided herein. The method includes receiving, by a processor, wind data measured by one or more airborne vehicles and position data associated with the one or more airborne vehicles. The method also includes generating, by the processor, a map display depicting a position of each of the one or more airborne vehicles based on the received position data. The method further includes generating a vehicle symbol on the map display for each of the one or more airborne vehicles. The vehicle symbol includes a vehicle indicator and a wind indicator. The wind indicator includes a symbol indicating a speed and a direction of wind exerted on the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2014Date of Patent: July 3, 2018Assignee: THE BOEING COMPANYInventor: Joshua Lee Downs

Publication number: 20170277392Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for generating a graphical icon for a vehicle carrying a payload is provided. The graphical icon includes a first icon portion that indicates a status of the first deployable payload, which can include several separately deployable sub-payloads. The graphical icon also includes a second icon portion that indicates the vehicle. The second icon portion is arranged relative to the first icon portion to indicate a direction of travel of the vehicle. The second icon portion may be smaller than the first icon portion to emphasize the payload status. The graphical icon is generated based on information about the vehicle and payload received from the vehicle. The generated graphical icon can be displayed on a computer display, such as on a top-down view map display in which the generated icon is overlaid on the map at the location of the vehicle and its payload.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2016Publication date: September 28, 2017Inventor: Joshua Lee DOWNS
