  • Patent number: 8442443
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method which analysis the characteristics of the received signal and selects the best beam arrangement for a transmitter/receiver pair for a given situation in a communication system. In particular, the channel delay profile provides characteristics which help to determine and evaluate the quality of a signal link. • Publication number: 20120313810
Abstract: A radar apparatus for obtaining a higher range resolution than conventional radar apparatus without increasing the bandwidth comprises a transmitter antenna that transmits a frequency modulated transmit signal having a transmit bandwidth and a receiver antenna that receives a receive signal reflected from said scene in response to the transmission of said transmit signal. A mixer mixes said receive signal with said transmit signal to obtain a mixed receive signal, a sampling unit samples said mixed receive signal to obtain receive signal samples from a period of said receive signal, and a processor processes said receive signal samples by defining a measurement matrix and determines the positions of one or more targets of the scene by applying compressive sensing using said measurement matrix and said receive signal samples.

  • Patent number: 8290443
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for determining the best transmitter and receiver beams with a reduced number of calculations for the best antenna beam arrangement between a transmitter and a receiver. The iterative routine within this method comprises a transmitter beam determination sequence, a feedback sequence and a receiver beam determination sequence. While calculating the best possible antenna beam arrangement, the antenna beam width does not require to be reduced.

  • Patent number: 8175109
Abstract: The present invention relates to an energy efficient mechanism for establishing and maintaining a communication between nodes (A . . . F) in a wireless communication system. In particular, it relates to a distributed low power medium access control (MAC) mechanism for sharing the communication means in a wireless communication system. According to the present invention a destination node (A) listens to a communication channel periodically. For requesting services from the destination node (A), a wake-up signal (WU) is transmitted from a source node (B) to the destination node (A) via the communication channel, wherein the wake-up signal (WU) is formed by a preamble (WP) and an information for controlling the communication between nodes (A . . . F). The WU signal duration and content is adapted depending on the system operation context to reduce either idle times, power consumption, latency or network blocking (collision avoidance).

  • Patent number: 8027282
Abstract: A heterogeneous wireless network topology suited for low-power, short-range and ubiquitous ad-hoc communication. The network topology integrates different wireless transmission technologies, in particular to a wireless sensor network including different node types and communication technologies. The network is highly heterogeneous and can be operated according to the master-slave principle. The nodes can have different wireless communication means tailored to their individual role in the network and other constraints, thus allowing different communication patterns.

  • Publication number: 20110147593
Abstract: The present invention relates to a passive radiometric imaging device and a corresponding method for scanning a scene. The proposed device comprises a radiometer that detects radiation emitted in a predetermined spectral range from a spot of said scene and for generating a radiation signal from said detected radiation, a spot movement means that effects a movement of the spot, from which the radiation is detected, to various positions, a controller that controls said spot movement means to effect the movement of the spot from one position to another position after a random time interval, and a processor that processes the radiation signals detected from the spot at said various positions and for reconstructing an image of said scene by applying compressive sensing. With this device an increase of the temperature resolution of the reconstructed image can be obtained.
