  • Patent number: 10513248
Abstract: A braking control system of a vehicle includes a pressure control device that regulates brake fluid flow to a brake caliper of a wheel from a brake fluid cylinder. A pressure sensor measures a pressure of the brake fluid applied to the brake caliper. A filter module filters the measured pressure based on a rotational frequency of the wheel. The filtering produces a filtered pressure of the brake fluid applied to the brake caliper. A target pressure module sets a target pressure for the brake fluid for application to the brake caliper. A difference module determines a pressure difference between the filtered pressure and the target pressure. A pressure control module actuates the pressure control device based on the pressure difference.

  • Patent number: 10501065
Abstract: A method is disclosed for validating operation of a secondary braking system (SBS) of a vehicle having a plurality of brakes, by controlling the SBS and a primary braking system (PBS) of the vehicle. The method may involve using the PBS to generate a first predetermined target braking pressure in the PBS for at least a first one of the brakes, while using the SBS to generate a second predetermined target braking pressure in the SBS for at least a second one of the brakes. Actual and anticipated performance characteristics of a braking component associated with the vehicle are then observed and compared, and from the comparison a determination is made whether the SBS is operating properly.

  • Patent number: 10493964
Abstract: A method is disclosed for mitigating wheel hop of a motor vehicle. The method may involve detecting an oscillation of a wheel speed of a driven wheel of the motor vehicle of the motor vehicle. When oscillation of the wheel is detected, a low amplitude, high frequency ripple braking signal is applied to a brake caliper associated with the wheel to modulate a braking action acting on the wheel.

  • Patent number: 8662276
Abstract: A braking apparatus for a vehicle, in particular a heavy goods vehicle, includes a drive axle having a transmission gear, such as a differential, around which an amount of oil for lubrication is variable. The brake apparatus further includes at least one friction brake and at least one retarder that is capable of operating to slow the vehicle through the transmission gear. The braking apparatus comprises a brake operating device for operating the at least one friction brake and the least one retarder, and a determining feature to determine an oil level around the transmission gear. The brake operating device, on operation by a user, is arranged to apply the retarder when the oil level around the transmission gear is above a threshold level, and, if the oil level is below the threshold level, the brake operating device is arranged to initiate an increase in the oil level around the transmission gear.
