Patent number: 9286885Abstract: In a method of generating speech from text the speech segments necessary to put together the text to be output as speech by a terminal are determined; it is checked, which speech segments are already present in the terminal and which ones need to be transmitted from a server to the terminal; the segments to be transmitted to the terminal are indexed; the speech segments and the indices of segments to be output at the terminal are transmitted; an index sequence of speech segments to be put together to form the speech to be output is transmitted; and the segments are concatenated according to the index sequence. This method allows to realize a distributed speech synthesis system requiring only a low transmission capacity, a small memory and low computational power in the terminal.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2004Date of Patent: March 15, 2016Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Jürgen Sienel, Dieter Kopp

Patent number: 8601564Abstract: The invention relates to a protection unit for protecting a packet-based network from attacks, comprising: a signature analyzer for analyzing a packet stream received in a security border node of the packet-based network and for detecting attacks by comparing signatures of the packet stream with a set of signatures of previously identified attacks, an anomaly detector for detecting anomalies in the packet stream, and a signature interference unit for updating the set of signatures when anomalies in the packet stream are detected, the updated set of signatures being subsequently used for performing the signature analysis. A distribution unit distributes at least one signature of the updated set of signatures to at least one further security border node of the packet-based network. The invention also relates to a security border node comprising such a protection unit, a network comprising at least two such protection units, and a corresponding protection method.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2009Date of Patent: December 3, 2013Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Stefan Wahl, Peter Domschitz, Juergen Sienel, Bernhard Noe

Patent number: 7711567Abstract: Telecommunication systems including a terminal, a switch and on Internet/Intranet having a memory for storing information blocks at locations defined by addresses, can be made more user-friendly by introducing a detector for detecting speech-recognition/non-speech recognition related parts in control signals originating from the terminal and defining the addresses or n response signals sent from memory to terminal and including said information blocks. A processor is coupled to the detector for routing, in dependence on the detection, routing (parts of) the signals to a server for either conversion of (parts of) the signals or for information purposes.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2001Date of Patent: May 4, 2010Assignee: AlcatelInventors: Jürgen Sienel, Dieter Kopp, Ulf Knoblich

Publication number: 20090265778Abstract: The invention relates to a protection unit (15) for protecting a packet-based network from attacks, comprising: a signature analyzer (5) for analyzing a packet stream (6) received in a security border node (2a) of the packet-based network (1) and for detecting attacks by comparing signatures of the packet stream (6) with a set of signatures of previously identified attacks, an anomaly detector, in particular a statistical analyzer (7), for detecting anomalies in the packet stream (6), and a signature interference unit (9) for updating the set of signatures when anomalies in the packet stream (6) are detected, the updated set of signatures (12) being subsequently used for performing the signature analysis. A distribution unit (13) distributes at least one signature of the updated set of signatures (12) to at least one further, preferably to each further security border node of the packet-based network (1).Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2009Publication date: October 22, 2009Inventors: Stefan Wahl, Peter Domschitz, Juergen Sienel, Bernhard Noe

Patent number: 7203650Abstract: In telecommunication systems including a terminal and a speech recognizer for vocal commanding, an indication signal originating from the terminal is detected, e.g., a telephone number dialed or a key signal or a vocal signal, or originating from an application located in the terminal or elsewhere in the network and in dependence of the indication signal a capacity parameter for the vocal commanding is adjusted, whereby a flexible capacity parameter is created for adjusting the available bandwidth between terminal and speech recognizer and/or for adjusting a processor capacity of terminal and/or speech recognizer, e.g., a sampling rate or a noise reduction being deactivated, as a result of which name dialing, command and control, and dictation can be done with the highest efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 2001Date of Patent: April 10, 2007Assignee: AlcatelInventors: Jürgen Sienel, Dieter Kopp, Ulf Knoblich

Patent number: 6717962Abstract: A method for establishing a digital communication link between an originating subscriber terminal and at least one called subscriber terminal, said method being better adapted to the transmission bandwidth used by a subscriber, has the following steps: First, a provisional link at a standard transmission rate from the originating subscriber terminal to the called subscriber is requested from a switching center. That provisional link is then established by the switching center. Next, a new, lower value for the transmission rate is selected by the originating subscriber terminal. That new value is then agreed upon with the switching center. Lastly, the latter switches the transmission rate of the provisional link over to the new, lower value, thus completing establishment of the communication link. The invention can advantageously be used in a telecommunications network, which for example operates according to the ISDN standard, to economize on transmission capacity and reduce call charges.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1998Date of Patent: April 6, 2004Assignee: AlcatelInventors: Dieter Kopp, Jürgen Sienel

Patent number: 6426942Abstract: Call connections by way of the Internet (internet telephony) are less expensive than ones by way of an open telephone network. However, no fixed transmission rates are guaranteed in the Internet, which can lead to losses in the quality of transmitted speech signals. A device (V) for establishing a call connection between two subscriber terminals (T1, T2) has a first interface (IF1) to a packet-switched data network (INET) and means (IP, KOMP) for establishing connections by way of the packet-switched data network (INET) as well as a second interface (IF2) to a connection-oriented telecommunication network (PSTN), in which a transmission channel with a predetermined transmission band width can be furnished. By means of a monitoring device (MON), the device (V) determines a current data throughput in the data network (INET).Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 1998Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: AlcatelInventors: Jürgen Sienel, Dieter Kopp
